Highway to Hell and Back In Black are both incredible masterpieces.

I mean, the structure of Van Halen songs, especially during the David Lee Roth era, is very simple, but there's some seriously innovative and intricate guitar work in there by Eddie. While the lyrics never really got much more deep, the Van Hagar had much more complex scores in their songs. I mean, just listen to this:
Summer Nights

The lyrics are still simple and crude, but there's some really interesting and cool stuff going on with the guitar work. Very few guitars, let alone guitar players, are capable of playing some of the things Eddie is doing on this track.

The Bon Scott era of AC/DC was awesome. After he died, the band was never the same.

Uh, Eddie Van Halen basically invented a whole new guitar style and sound.

Not to mention, there really wasn't anything like them when they started. Van Halen toured with fricking Black Sabbath in 1978. There was no parallel to them at that point in time.

As for the OP, I'm not a huge AC/DC fan, but I understand their draw. As others have said, they're pure energized rock. You also have to remember when they started. It's easy to look back at bands 40 years after the fact and criticize them, but at the time they were unique.

The same goes for the above poster and Van Halen. Sure, hate on Van Halen today, but in 1978 it was like hearing an alien spaceship.

The only thing that must have seemed more “out of nowhere” than the first time someone heard Van Halen was the first time someone heard Black sabbath. That stuff must have sounded like it came straight out of hell in the early 70’s.

It's only Rock'n Roll but I like it.
Don't over analyze it.
When I need to drive all night, nothing else can keep my eyes open like AC/DC.

It did. Well said, but strangely enough, Zeppelin paved the way for me; it wasn’t that much of a shock to the system. Now my sister, who grew up listening to Dan Fogelberg, Leo Sayer, Bread, etc, pretty much thought I needed an exorcism when I blared Sabbath through my speakers.

For real. Black Sabbath recorded their debut album in 1969

I mean, songs like "Sugar, sugar" by the Archies were at the top of the charts at that time, then Black Sabbath comes out of left field.

Imagine Dragons never put out anything remotely close to "Night Prowler" which is one of the darkest songs of all time.

I love the idea of citing just ONE SONG to refute the retarded notion of AC/DC having anything in common with "Image Dragons". This place...

The Beatles are the most overrated band ever, and it's not even close.

She Loves You

Ah, one of those huh.

The beatles aren't as renowned because of their early moptop stuff like she loves you. At that time, they were essentially the hip new boy band of their day similar to the backstreet boys. The reason why they are THE BEATLES is because of the way they completley reinvented themselves and music at the time. Starting with rubber soul and revolver they didn't really resemble the fresh faced boy band anymore, and from Sgt. Pepper on were completely changing the game. The things they were doing with their sound and production was unheard of at the time. Anyone who thinks the beatles are overrated, let alone the most overrated band ever, simply becuse of their early 60s work is simply trying to be the contrarian on purpose for attention.

No, I just think that they're highly overrated and don't like their music at all. But, music is highly subjective. The O.P. gave his opinion and I gave mine. But thanks for affirming what I've said all along. The Beatles are the original "boy band."

There's nothing in AC/DC's catalogue that puts them remotely in the class of Imagine Dragons.

They aren't even really in the same genre.

One thing people really don't get is AC/DC was bluesy Rock, it's not serious music, its fun music.

What a pretentious dumbass you are. AC/DC flosses their a-hole with Queen and Van Halen you wanker. Bon Scott's dead corpse sings better than David Lee Roth.

Quite a few folks in this thread don't appreciate the EL34 power amp sag from Marshall Amplification.

AC/DC does, and I'm glad they do.

I didn't get it at first, but I get it now (and I'm an old man). I hated then back in the day.

There's something going on below the surface and I really can't explain it.
