Honestly John has the potential to become one of my favorite songwriters of all time.
That album In The Throes is the best thing I've listened to in at least 10 years

Look at me. I go out of my way to hate everything on country radio.
And are you fricking kidding me with those links? All of that is absolutely terrible. Especially Splinters. That song had zero, and I mean ZERO melody and was way too wordy. I you're going to argue that you listen to "better" stuff then at least post better songs to back up your argument.
I'm not saying what Nashville is doing is good but there's a hell of a lot better stuff in Nashville than what you posted. Quit listening to the radio and go visit and FIND it. Or just keep fooling yourself into thinking what you posted is actually good.

mainstream country radio is marketed towards stupid people
Mainstream music isn't good, and most people don't have good taste. There's a reason the phrase "appealing to the lowest common denominator" exists.

Really, TheDoc? How much longer are you going to hold onto the "mainstream country sucks" thing? That's all you ever contribute to this board.
Posted on 12/25/13 at 8:59 am to King of New Orleans
well, it does.
it's well marketed music that is geared towards certain demographics. they consider demo's while writing these songs.

They don't consider demographics when writing. Trust me. I'm close to writers who have hits on the radio. Believe or don't. I guarantee you I'm more knowledgable than you think I am on this.

I have friends in nashville that write, and I can tell you that they do use focus groups to see what songs will be cut and recut.
one of them has written for luke bryan...

Post your reasons why country music was awesome in 2013
1) Sirius Outlaw Country
2)
Through the Music Board, my world has evolved from Creager, REK Jr. and Corey Smith to AA, TT, Seth James, John Moreland et al.
Thanks CWK, Doc and Boogie. And Merry Christmas hugs to Heady B ...

Did the dude defending Crapville pop just tell YOU to quit listening to the radio and go find real country? Just making sure I read that correctly...

I mean it's Christmas and I'm a little drunk so I could be wrong but that's what I read

Also, I said quit listening to the radio because you all base all of your Nashville arguments on what you hear on the radio. Quit listening to what you hear on the radio and go to Nashville and FIND the good country. What you'll find up there will absolutely destroy every song posted in the OP.

Yeah, that is our point.
We don't listen to the radio.
shite man, all of our favorites live in vans
What do you consider "good" country?
Also, I have been to Nashville. Artists like Austin Lucas, Jacob Jones, Jason Isbell, and Cory Branan all live up there.
