Who is a bigger musical loss for you in the mid 90s?

Kurt Cobain in 94
Shannon Hoon in 95
Jeff Buckley in 97
Last night, I had a vivid dream of how wonderful it would have been to have one of those crossover shows in the Gospel Tent at Jazzfest featuring Jeff Buckley on a rainy soul defining afternoon.
Am I in the minority thinking Jeff Buckley’s loss musically left us in a deeper hole than others of that time period? I just think about the potential left in him and the range of not only his voice and songwriting, but also the genres he could have attempted. Anyway, not really a debate, just I guess a reminder of his genius and gifts to us.

Jeffrey Lee Pierce of The Gun Club. He melded punk and blues better than anybody else. A truly under rated genius.

This is the only right answer. While each were important and great in their own rights, Buckley was a special talent. You still hear his influence today. Grace is a classic that's one of the greatest records ever recorded, and you can hear his genius at work on Sweetheart even though it wasn't a completed album.
If Buckley survived, he would be considered one of the rare revolutionaries in music history. He was a genuine musical genius.

The biggest musical loss of the mid-90s was Matt Sharp leaving Weezer.

Hoon. I felt we only caught a glimpse into what could have been. Not so much with the others, though they are great artists.

SRV in 1990.....devastating loss. I knew you said mid 90’s but SRV was the biggest and most shocking loss to millions of blues/rock fans across the world.

Cobains death brought on the end of grunge and alternative so I’ll say that. I wasn’t the biggest Nirvana fan but it seemed like after he died it all sort of started going downhill. Not that it caused it but it just seemed to be the marking point.

Stevie Ray Vaughn is the ONLY acceptable answer.

Frank Zappa in 1993. Age 52 by prostate cancer.
