quote:

Buddy Holly's a particularly sad story in that he was only 22 at the time and still had so much to give to music. He was a major innovator in the studio and as a guitar player. Also, had an impactful singing voice for the groups that came after.
Here's my thing with Holly...not only did he die way too young, but I would have loved to have seen him flourish in a musical era where he could have just let loose. Every time I listen to Peggy Sue I not only love the song, but hear someone who would really let loose if given the chance if not confined to the restraints that he had in the 50's.

I think it was George Carlin who said something like the two wrong Beatles died first.

Cobain and Hoon. Hoon could have done some amazing stuff. So sad.

I never listened to Amy Winehouse before she died.

Maybe she just seemed like a Brit thing, IDK and didn't too much promotion over here.

But damn, Back to Black is such quality. The arrangements, the music...it's pretty spot-on studio production without being gaudy.

Of course, that's just recent musings.

Buddy Holly is #1 among many others.

Buddy Holly could have been the GOAT...he was that good.

The creative juices in John Lennon were flowing when he was cut down ... Double Fantasy... Milk and Honey. So many songs lost to senseless violence.

Freddie Mercury and the perfect voice. The ultimate showman. Will never be another.

Two of my favorites from the OP.

Gram Parsons and Sam Cooke.

I was listening to Sam Cooke this weekend...has there ever been a voice as clear and pure as that? His stuff is freakin timeless.
