Although he lived to be 60, for all intents and purposes Syd Barrett was gone far too soon...

I actually feel like he would have held Pink Floyd back from becoming the greatness that they achieved.

It would've been nice to at least have the best of both worlds, with Floyd continuing without Syd, and Syd finally regrouping & getting his wits together a couple of years later, embarking on an interesting & productive solo career. While his existing solo material had some good moments, let's be honest...without some outside help cutting & pasting much of it together, there wouldn't have been enough material fit for release.
