Man this is a great question but it’s too difficult for me. The best country singer of all time is either George Jones or George Strait. I don’t know which. Next is Alan Jackson, then Randy Travis, then Hank Jr. Since I’m an indecisive prick, i will give you my top song by each artist.
George Jones - She Thinks I Still Care
George Strait - The Cowboy Rides Away
Alan Jackson - Who Says You Can’t Have It All
Randy Travis - I Told You So
Hank Jr. - Weatherman
One of those is the greatest country song of all time.

Great choices. I’ll add one that hasn’t been mentioned yet.
John Deer Green - Joe Diffie

Sure enough about closin' time
'Bout stoned out of my mind
And I end up with some honkytonk special I found
Just as sure as the mornin' sun comes
Thinkin of my sweet girl at home
And I need to get whiskey bent and hell bound
Play me the songs about a ramblin' man
Put old Jim Beam in my hand
'Cause you know I still love to get drunk
And hear country sounds
But don't you play, "Your Cheatin' Heart"
'Cause that'll tear me all apart
I'll get whiskey bent and hell bound
Yeah, old Hank's songs
Always make me feel low down
'Bout stoned out of my mind
And I end up with some honkytonk special I found

You Never Even Call Me by my Name
Are You Sure Hank Done it this Way
Seven Spanish Angels
My top 10 … random order
I messed up not reading first. Old Violin and Amarillo By Morning absolutely deserve to be in here

Even though it's not an original, I'd cast a vote for "Always On My Mind" by Willie.

I'd prolly go with the Possum (HSLH Today or Tennessee Whiskey), but here's a few other that make the list.
Haggard - Mama Tried, My own kind of Hat
DAC - If that ain't Country
Kenny Rogers - Coward of the County
Charley Pride - All I have to Offer You
Clint Black - Nobody's Home
Garth Brooks - Alabama Clay
I shouldn't have even started this damn list, cause I'm realizing I left off Cash, Strait, Whitley, Twitty, and Hank Jr. Lots of good shite out there!

Great song, plus Clint out kicked his coverage with Lisa Hartman.

Greatest Country Female Song
Posted on 7/10/25 at 4:45 am to GeauxldMember
For me iv never really like country like at all, but damn my buddy was playing a song while we were fishing and it caught me I liked a lot of the songs he was playing.. maybe it was just me finally giving country a chance.
The song that got my attention was Birmingham and then I think tyler Childress song and dinosaur
There was more that he played and I liked em all so I guess I now like country music lol. I’m sure I’ll be back to hip hop or rock in a few weeks

I'll take "Weatherman" by Jr

While I'll not argue with your premise, since everyone else has offered other opinions, I'll throw in one for consideration:
Jaded lover:
Well it won't be but a week or two
you'll be out lovin someone new
Seems like it's happened a hundred times before
But I can see you been spreadin' yourself thin too
It's a lonely stage that we been goin' through
So don't get up I can find my own way to the door
And I can see you are an angel
With wings that won't unfold
Tune up your harp
Polish your old halo
The only kind of man that you ever wanted
Was one that you knew you'd never hold very long
Sittin' there cryin' like I'm the first one to go.

Why is it “He Stopped Loving Her Today?”
And why does it almost make me cry like a little girl damn near every time I hear it?
RIP, Possum.
I hate having to downvote this.

I don't. It's not in my Top 5 country songs.

that I could do,
To keep from cryin....

Don't think you can embed two videos in one post.

Why is it “He Stopped Loving Her Today?
Certainly one that has a valid claim.
One of my favorites is Alabama's "Song of The South". Some of the best lyrics, in my opinion, especially for a hit song, ever penned.
"Daddy was a veteran, a southern democrat - they oughta get a rich man to vote like that"
"Papa got a job at the TVA, bought a washing machine and then a Chevrolet"
These lyrics would not be out of place in folk music and country and folk are tied at the hip traditionally - not so much with bro country but real country.
Another of my favorites is Merle Haggard's "The Way I Am"...again, great lyrics....
"Wish I was down, on some blue bayou, bamboo cane stuck in the sand, but the road I'm on, don't seem to go there, so I just dream and keep on being the way I am..."
