You can get just so much
From a good thing
You can linger too long
In your dreams
Say goodbye to the
Oldies but goodies
Cause the good ole days weren't
Always good
And tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems

I twist a shade to my right
And spit at beelzebub on sight
And go on loving all I see
For here I live on patiently
Clearly now, I tell you man
That all I say Is all I can
For I am nothing but my sin
Until I learn to caste them in

Hi yo
We drift in and out
Hi yo
Sing into my mouth
Out of all those kinds of people
You got a face with a view
I'm just an animal looking for a home and
Share the same space for a minute or two
And you love me till my heart stops
Love me till I'm dead
Eyes that light up, i see through you
Cover up the blank spots
Hit me on the head
Ah ooh

And I know a father
Who had a son
He longed to tell him all the reasons
For the things he'd done
He came a long way
Just to explain
He kissed his boy as he lay sleeping
Then he turned around and headed home again

--Paul Simon

We used to fight for building blocks
Now we fight for blocks with buildings that make a killin'
The closest of friends when we first started
But grew apart as the money grew and soon grew black-hearted
Thinkin' back when we first learned to use rubbers
He never learned, so in turn I'm kidnappin' his baby's mother
My hand around her collar, feedin' her cheese
She said the taste of dollars was s**tty, so I fed her fifties
About his whereabouts I wasn't convinced
I kept feedin' her money 'til her s**t started to make sense
Who could ever foresee?
We used to stay up all night at slumber parties
Now I'm tryna rock his b***h to sleep
All the years we were real close
Now I see his fears through her tears
Know she's wishin' we were still close
Don't cry, it is to be, in time
I'll take away your miseries and make it mine, D'evils

--Jay-Z

That Simon verse is my favorite about a family relationship. The Jay-Z verse has incredible wordplay and metaphors.

Trying to be so bad is bad enough
Don't make me laugh by talking tough
Don't put your heart out on your sleeve
When your remarks are off the cuff

Take of the gloomy mask of tragedy
It's not your style
You'll look so good that you'll be glad
You de

My funny valentine
Sweet comic valentine
You make me smile with my heart
Your looks are laughable
Unphotographable
Yet you're my favorite work of art

Is your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little week?
When you open it to speak
Are you smart?

But don't change a hair for me
Not if you care for me
Stay little valentine stay
Each day is Valentine's Day

First one is an all time favorite song, second is just a recent one.

There's flies in the kitchen I can hear 'em there buzzing
And I ain't done nothing since I woke up today.
How the hell can a person go to work in the morning
And come home in the evening and have nothing to say.
(Angel from Montgomery)

I picked a good day for a recreational Percocet
I've got an itch to just get high
I'm in the middle of the worst of it
These are the best years of my life

God damn
Hail Satan we're just trying to sell our souls to make us famous but
I just want to hold your hand
I just want to make you mine
I just want to take you out
I want to make you proud, make you proud
All my life I've been laying on a bed of knives and rusty nails
Now I'm sadder than I've ever been but
I'm glad you're doing well

some they do and some they don't
some you just can't tell
some they will and some they won't
some it's just as well

But seriously,

Now the thing about time is that time
Isn't really real
It's just your point of view
How does it feel for you

On the lighter side,

It's a boring day - I've got nothing to do
Except to get a load of retards and drive 'em to the zoo

Load 'em on a bus just for laughs
Down a winding road stepping on the gas
Down a winding road just daydreaming
Down a winding road with the retards screaming

From Decoration Day by Drive By Truckers

It's Decoration Day
And I've got a family in Mobile Bay
And they've never seen my daddy's grave.
But that don't bother me, it ain't marked anyway.
'Cause I got dead brothers in Lauderdale south
And I got dead brothers in east Tennessee.
My Daddy got shot right in front of his house
He had no one to fall on but me.

Those last two lines always hit me right in the feels. An incredibly dark and sad line for the song’s narrator.

I lit my purest candle close to my
Window, hoping it would catch the eye
Of any vagabond who passed it by,
And I waited in my fleeting house

Before he came I felt him drawing near;
As he neared I felt the ancient fear
That he had come to wound my door and jeer,
And I waited in my fleeting house

"Tell me stories, " I called to the Hobo;
"Stories of cold, " I smiled at the Hobo;
"Stories of old, " I knelt to the Hobo;
And he stood before my fleeting house

I'm spending Hanukkah in Santa Monica,
Wearing sandals lighting candles by the sea.
I spent Shavuos, in East St. Louis,
A charming spot but clearly not the spot for me.

Those eastern winters, I can't endure 'em,
So every year I pack my gear
And come out here to Purim.

Rosh Hashonah, I spend in Arizonna,
And Yom Kippa, way down in Mississippa.
But in Decemba, there's just one place for me.
Amid the California flora,
I'll be lighting my menorah.
Like a baby in his cradle
I'll be playing with my dreidl
Here's to Judas Maccabeus
Boy if he could only see us!
Spending Hanukkah
In Santa Monica
By the sea!
