re: Red Dragon closing soon

Maxwell relied too much on booking his favorite artists and older artists. His target demographic was 60+ and that demographic is not going to sell out shows every week. His own arrogance and unwillingness to change led to the constant begging for people to attend shows. When he would book “younger” artists, shows would sell out within a few days. Eg. BJ Barham. I will miss seeing shows at the Dragon.

I have a tweed Blues Jr. that I’m looking to sell if you decide to go that route. I bought it new in 2018 and probably have less than 50 hours on it.

Paging Fretshack! Vince played some of Frets pickups at a guitar show.

Kelan was a great QB and super nice dude. That was during the Art Briles era at Stephenville. He was one grade ahead of me and TJ Davis the guitarist was in my grade. Donald the singer was two grades ahead of me and I grew up with him in the same Boy Scout troop. Mark Tremonti produced that first album and then it seemed to fizzle out. I think it was more of a label thing and not getting much promotion. Their second album was produced by Rick Beato! Rick’s YouTube channel is awesome.

I went to high school withthe singer, bassist, and one of the guitar players of Submersed. The bassist Kelan Luker was a badass high school QB and played for SMU before they got signed to a record deal. The singer and bassist recently reformed the band and released an EP.
I never got in. Queue updated to say both shows sold out.
I’m about 1/4 of the way in the queue. Process isn’t perfect by any means but if the slow release of tickets to prevent bots from scooping them up is working, I’m fine with the wait. OSU athletics has probably never had to deal with the kind of demand on their ticketing site!
I’m glad they are keeping the ticket prices reasonable. Half of the tickets will be $25-$100. In an earlier video this week, Cody said the price range was $25-$225.
Second show added on Friday. Two shows now that weekend!
Cody posted a video on his social pages. Tickets are going to run $25-$225. Great prices! Now just to find lodging since all hotels within an hour of Stillwater have sold out.
I know Cody hated Carney Man in the latter years of Ragweed and when he started The Departed. But, he’s been playing Carney Man and all the big Ragweed songs for at least the last five years during his Departed and solo shows. Hopefully, we get some other festival headlines as well. Would love to see them at Musicfest in Steamboat.

re: Guitar Question

If you are close to Baton Rouge schedule a setup with TheFretShack, or as he calls it, a “spa day.” A good setup will do wonders. You won’t find a nicer or more knowledgeable tech than FretShack in the BR area. I’ve had two guitars setup by Fret and they made my cowboy/powerchord strumming so much more enjoyable. Plus, Fret will walk you through the work he did and do a play through his 2x12 stack…gotta love hearing a great player play your guitar to show it off!
Morgan Wade is incredible. Sadler Vaden produced her debut album and upcoming second album.

Speaking of Sarah Shook, her indie band Mightmare is pretty good. I’m hoping Sarah comes to BR sometime soon with either band.
Even Chris said shut the frick up when doing his turnoff your phones speech prior to the show. He said he had a pass since it’s on BJ’s merch. Lol
This will be BJ’s first playing Red Dragon. I was chatting with Chris (owner of Red Dragon) one morning at Brew-ha-ha and mentioned he should book American Aquarium/BJ. He told me to email him some song links to check out. His email reply to me was “I’ll check em out.” That email was sent in 2016! Glad he finally booked them 7 years late.
Word around the campire is BJ will be playing Red Dragon Listening room on March 28th. Announcement should be coming soon and I imagine it will sell out quickly.

re: Analogman Guitar Pedals

Check out Mythos Pedals. Zach makes some great stuff! He has a Klon clone called the Mjolnir (pronounced mule-neer) and it gets great reviews. His fuzz circuits are great too. I bought his Carter Vintage exclusive Hot Chicken pedal a few years ago and it’s bad arse. Two in one pedal with boost and overdrive.

I got on the wait list for the King of Tone on 9/14/2018. Not that I really want the pedal but just in case.

I thought it would be 1-2 years. It’s now been four years and they just started filling orders for folks who got on the waitlist on or before January 22, 2018! At this rate, it will probably be 2024 until I can buy one. Honestly planned to resale it for a profit on Reverb. I plan to keep it now if I ever come off the waitlist.
I grew up on these and they still remain my favorites. They always remind me of decorating the Christmas tree when I was growing up.

It’s ridiculous. I logged in early and still wasn’t able to get tickets. Tix already in stubhub for $300+ each.
