What’s a good song to reminisce about lost loved ones?

I’m a glutton for punishment, but this time of year I always think about my mom, gone too soon. With that said I like sit alone and listen to songs of remembrance.

The Prayer Boat - It Hurts to Lose You

Don’t know how this band wasn’t bigger. Equate the singer to Jeff Buckley

I cry most times I listen to Sturgill Simpson - All Around You and think of my son.

These lyrics get to me:

There will be nights
That go on forever
Like you're long-lost at sea
Never to be found

Just know in your heart
That we're always together
And long after I'm gone
I'll still be around

'Cause our bond is eternal
And so is love
God is inside you all around you
And up above

I teared up just reading them.

Another Auld Lang Syne by Dan Folgelberg. Not that this will make you think of your mother but it is a sad holiday song about lost loves. They play it a lot this time of year and it always gets me.

The Champ

Suposedly this is the least requested top 10 hit (non novelty) on oldies radio

And I bet it was an influence on This

Life Without You by Stevie Ray Vaughan

Well, hello baby
Tell me how have you been?
We all have missed you
And the way you grin
The day is necessary
Every now and then
For souls to move on
Given life back again
Fly on, fly on
Fly on my friend
Go on, live again
Love again
Day after day
Night after night
Sittin' here singin'
Every minute
As the years go passin'…

My sympathies for your loss.

One of my favorites comes from the funeral troparion taken from Revelation 21:4.

Starts at the 2:34 mark, sort of the last word on life I guess.

Explosions in the Sky- Your hand in mine...

instrumental obviously.... but there's emotion and healing in the music to me.

I have certain songs I associate with lost loved ones, songs I can't get through without getting misty eyed. My mom loved this song (hell, I think everyone's mom loves this song), so this is my submission

Fleetwood Mac - Landslide

Another one of my mom's favorites:

Velvet Revolver - Fall to Pieces

Merry Christmas you filthy animals, hug your moms for me.
