What kind of people go to tribute band concerts?

It seems like a waste of money to me. Especially if the real band is still around.

Not that this applies to your point, but I hear one of the Beatles tribute bands is great.
Also, most of the time the "real" band is 60 years old, has different members than the original and typically sounds not so good, whereas an energetic, 20 something age band plays hard.

I'd probably go see a Beatles tribute band. One came through Baton Rouge 6 or so years ago that was supposedly the real deal.
I heard a commercial for the Van Halen tribute band coming to Baton Rouge and that made me start this thread.

Jack FM in Dallas is having a festival with nothing but tribute bands. I didn't even know some of these existed.

I've seen zoso and badfish. Led zeppelin and sublime tribute bands. Had a great time at both.
I figured it was the closest I'd ever get to seeing the real thing....

I'm not generally a big fan of cover bands, but ZOSO put on a good show.

I saw badfish...they were quite good. Although I'm not going to lie...the idea of a band touring and in some instances making a pretty decent living solely copying someone else's work just rubs me the wrong way. I'm not totally against it...it just seems kind of empty.

I went to a Sublime tribute band at the Varsity years ago..of course Brad Lee is dead. They had some talent, but overall it was disappointing.

I mean I wouldn't want to be in a tribute band but in a lot of ways its more of a challenge than being in an original band.
Its as much of a stage show as it is a concert. Those guys have to be actors AND musicians.
They also make pretty damn good money for a band.

I've seen a Beatles tribute band and it was really good. But I would only see a tribute for a band that isn't together anymore. On that poster I would actually like to see the beastie boys tribute.

the difference of one that covers a defunct band vs. one still touring is big to me. Wouldn't go to one with the band still around.

I saw Led Zeppelin way back. Saw Zoso in the past few years. Thought they had some good energy and decent take on the songs. For the price I'd see them again. Wouldn't try to compare them to the real thing but certainly worth hearing a full live set of Zep songs if ya never had the chance.

Went to a KISS tribute band concert in Starkville a long time ago an it was quiet fun. They had pyro show, blood, costumes and makeup.

Yeah, it's weird thinking about how that band's life is centered around another band. Not just influenced by, but a complete carbon copy.

I agree. The poster for that all cover band show/festival thing seems kind of lame. I mean you have to REALLY want to see live music bad to listen to a Depeche Mode cover band (just using that as an example). Just chill at home and listen to the actual thing as it was meant to be heard.

I saw Hells Belles once just because the singer invited me to go. Met her at the airport. I have seen better, seen worse.
