Long drive has a lot of my favorite songs, but The Moon and Antarctica is such a solid album all the way through. Like Siamese Dream is for me, just good start to finish and goes on a journey throughout. First heard 3rd Planet on 91.1 which is how I discovered Modest Mouse which is how I got into a lot of the music that I got into.

Long Drive ends great though. Talking shite, Mechanical Birds, and Space Travel. Lounge is my favorite MM song too.

Lonesome Crowded West and Buillding Nothig are tied for third. Great songs on each but overall I enjoy the other two albums better. Haven’t really listened to much after that though admittedly so I may Be missing some good stuff,

It’s always The Moon and Antarctica or Lonesome Crowded West, but it would just depend on the day if I had to pick just one. Both are 5 stars out of five, top 25 (conservatively) all-time records for me.

The middle part of Lonesome Crowded West (Cowboy Dan, Trailer Trash, Out of Gas) is some damn good music.

Lonesome Crowded West. A real classic masterpiece. One of the albums you put on and listen to the whole thing. like Spoon's A Series Of Sneaks.

I first heard Modest Mouse with Good News for People Who Love Bad News which is a great album. Always heard their early-mid career stuff was better, but never listened to it. The later albums have been total balls.

Are they as disastrously terrible live as I've heard? Know a few people who have seen them a couple times each, and all said that Isaac Brock was so shitfaced he could barely stand on stage each time.

I’ve seen them live and they sounded good. And yeah if all you’ve heard is Good News and after you’re missing out on a lot. Everything before then is so much better, like a completely different band really.

1. Lonesome Crowded West
2. Building Nothing out of Something
3. This is a Long Drive...
4. Moon and Antarctica
5. Good News...

Sad Sappy Sucker and Fruit that Ate Itself are both right around there too

And Interstate 8 has probably one of my top 5 all time Modest Mouse songs in Edit the Sad Parts, but it's not a great EP and no need to include it.

But Edit the Sad Parts fricking rules

This. Though everything up to Good News was very good. I’ve become pretty disillusioned with the band since after Good News. Their last album was pretty forgettable.

"Lonesome Crowded West" but I also really enjoy "No One's First and You're Next".

basically anything moon & antarctica or before, including all studio albums & ep's, are separated by the smallest of margins for me. i love them all, but if i were forced to choose just one i would go with this is a long drive for someone with nothing to think about.
