It changes for me. Just so much to choose from. Right now I lean Revolver. Two years from Ed Sullivan to Tomorrow Never Knows. Truly mind blowing.

Why does the bass sound so badass on Beatles records?

It’s so pronounced, no other bands bass sounds like that.

Is it because of the type of bass Paul used?

Paul is just a badass?

Abbey Road. I regard side 2 as the magnum opus of their career.

I can never pick a favorite here, like picking your favorite child:

Revolver
Sgt Pepper
White Album
Abbey Road
Let It Be

All tied for 1st for me. Amazing that they were released within 3-4 years.

Whenever someone asks me how to get into the Beatles, I show them these.

I don’t think it’s their best, but my favorite is White Album.

the production on these albums is what makes this band absurd.

The way these things sound is incredible, blows away the shite coming out today.

In 1966, Paul was dissatisfied w/the bass on Beatles records. He cornered George Martin & played a Wilson Pickett record (presumably w/Duck Dunn on bass) to show the sound he was after. This would result in "Paperback Writer".

BION, at one point it was seriously discussed that the Beatles would go to Memphis to record at Stax Studios. But for various reasons this didn't happen.

One of the engineers, Geoff Emerick I think, wired up a speaker to work as a microphone and recorded Paperback Writer and Rain that way.

Can’t choose one but I rotate between the early releases. Currently it is a toss up between the United Artists soundtrack of A Hard Days Night and The Beatles Second Album.
