UK alternative band, headlined Voodoo in 2010, headlined Shaky Knees last year, still play arenas, not my favorite band - but it's impossible to not have heard one of their songs even by accident in the last 20 plus years (they also played one of the smaller stages at Woodstock 99)

They aren’t bad

Summary-English rock band who worked their way up to arena/stadium status in Europe & full arenas in the U.S. & then promptly changed their sound completely & alienated a large part of their fan base. This is a familiar story.

Definitely an odd English band with a deep and varied catalog that isn’t easily summarized by a single style. However, they have high pitched vocals (but not screechy or screamy), catchy bass lines, synth nonsense, and some weird proggy stuff thrown in. They’ve been a pretty big mainstream rock band for like 20 years and have inspired some of the biggest bands of today like Nothing But Thieves and Sleep Token.

Saw them on The Resistance tour. Fantastic show actually. This stage setup was pretty cool.

Its the Wembley show. Not bad so far. You are right about the bass.

I haven't listened to Muse in years. Forgot abt them actually.

I'm glad you posted this, adding a few songs to my running playlist.

I tried them for a while. I just couldnt get into them. Time is running out was a song I liked but I guess they are just out of my range.

I like some alt music. Just couldnt connect with them

they take me back to the days when I was a flight nurse. brings back a lot of memories from those years.

I have such a variety of genres that I enjoy- my spotify looks like a tornado went through a Tower Records store and my playlist is just a heaping pile of randomness.

Great live band. Everything up to the The Resistance is pretty good. After that, not so much. Madness is so cringy bad. Got to be one of the worst popular rock songs ever.

This pretty much sums it up. Their first few records are great, but then they decided to, well, you've already explained it. I mean, they even started adding dubstep to their style.

I haven’t heard anything after Resistance. Seems like I’ll be keeping it that way

This. Origin of Symmetry is one of the best early albums of the 2000s.

What is this band Muse?
One of the truly great acts of the past 25 years. The singer/songwriter/guitarist - Matthew Bellamy - is the Freddie Mercury of our generation. (Weird fun fact, he is now married to a model that went to Northwood High School in Blanchard, Louisiana.) He is a world-class virtuosic pianist and guitarist - frequently innovating tech wise.

Invincible, Live from Wembley. He absolutely just steps up like a boss and tears it up with this tapped solo which is as good as any of the guys from the 80s

The songwriting is eclectic. I came to them from more of a metal angle and was ultimately completely taken by the sheer breadth of genre and risk-taking in that regard. There should be something for everyone.

Here are a few that I think are awesome in how unique, yet still catchy they are. In the end, Muse is all about accessibility, melody and feel. Lots of "epic" too. I often describe them as "Radiohead, if Radiohead were actually listenable". The hipsters and snobs look down on them because of these things. They refuse to be just casually ironic. They suffer a penalty due to their earnestness.

HooDoo - flamenco inspired, free form poetry?

I Belong to You (+Mon cœur s'ouvre à ta voix) - French synth pop song...with incredible drumming and a clarinet solo!

United States of Eurasia - essentially, a Queen pastiche...with a Chopin piano outro

I'll add some more as they strike me.
