what happened to mosh pits

I feel like only Metal bands have mosh pits at their shows these days. Seems like most bands in arena shows now sell floor seats instead. Also seems that festivals now have folks just bobbing up and down instead of actually slam dancing. I've grown out of the "circle pit" time of my life, but it sucks that kids these days don't get to take part

Are we talking about the tame mosh pits of the '90s or the GG Allin/punchyouinyourfrickingface mosh pits of the '70s and '80s?

People that mosh can go frick themselves. People have become less stupid, which is why there is less of it these days. If the only way you can enjoy a concert is to slam into other people and ruin the show for others, then you are a douchebag sir.

People are too busy filming the show with their stupid phones to mosh anymore. It is a shame people can't just enjoy a show without having to post pics and other dumb shite to Facebook during the damn thing.

OMG if I didn't video it and upload it to YouTube and Facebook, it didn't happen.

Don't know but I wish the same thing would happen to rap.

Thats funny, because when people were moshing, they were ruining the damn show for a lot of people. I don't find it fun to dodge elbows.
Moshing was stupid and remains stupid and I'm glad its gone.
ETA: I do agree with you about the phone thing. Phones are really starting to piss me off in general.

There were a few at Foo Fighters in Little Rock last year but yeah, it's dying.
I think part of it is that people just got retarded with it.

Mosh pits haven't gone anywhere. You shouldn't expect them at Nickleback concerts. Go to a metal show if you want that.

Didn't kids die at a pearl jam show in Europe? That ended it for pearl jam shows.
Never understood moshing? Was in one for 5 minutes. Threw a kid who was probably 10 years old... He asked me to.
Then tried to break a guys leg who kicked my friend in the head. I purposely tried to hobble him while the crowd had him above their heads.
Removed myself from the situation. Walked to the back and sat with the pot smokers until the 2nd hand smoke soothed me...... The 90's

No shite. They aren't what they used to be though. There's a lot more pure violence than "dancing" like it was. It is mostly idiots these days.

It's always been mostly idiots.

100% correct. It was the most childish dumbass thing I ever had to endure at a concert. Call me crazy, but I wanted to actually pay attention to the band and not perform or watch other assholes perform. More than once I was tempted to go to my car, pull out my Louisville Slugger and join in the fun in my own special way.
