If the only way you can enjoy a concert is to slam into other people and ruin the show for others, then you are a douchebag sir.
where did I say this was the only way to enjoy concerts? I DID say that I have grown out of that stage in my life. I'm thinking more and more that you're a pretentious a-hole.

I remember the days when I would go out there and try to bust someone's spleen. It was a great outlet of aggression. I am too old but love watching them. If you cant take the heat then go stand with the rest of the longhairs in the back sucking down the overpriced stuff and stay off my floor
I would much rather have a pit than stand around a bunch of dope smokin hippies who never shower and just want to hug you and look at the colors.

At a Black Crowes concert in 93 Chris Ropbinson stopped the music when some kids started crowd surfing and screamed, "We ain't Nirvana so quit fricking up the show for everybody."
Never understood why chicks would crowd surf.

Umm, people realized it was the lamest, most homoerotic thing you can do at a concert...

I got tired of 200# dudes crowd surfing during Cypress Hill at Voodoo. I got a little carried away and spiked one of them over the rail. Security approved.

They must like being sexually assaulted...
There are some very funny videos floating around of Joshua Homme stopping shows to insult moshers.

Exactly how am I being pretentious? I'm only pointing out the fact that moshing is a douchey thing to do because it's selfish and ruins the show for others who paid to actually watch the band play and enjoy it.
And yeah, I am angry, as should anyone else who's had to deal with these assholes.

It was a moment in time and it’s over. I’m not going to lie and say I didn’t mosh and have a great time doing so. My buddy got his nose broken during a GWAR show which was pretty funny, even at the time. Less Than Jake had the most fun pit I’ve ever been in – it was part of the show. And there was something to the out of control violence of punk shows back in the day (except Fugazi, who would never stand for that crap).
And it’s actually Fugazi who turned me around on it. Moshing is almost an exclusively male activity, and it excludes female fans from the show due to the danger of, well, a fight in the middle of the show. And once punk went mainstream, jocks started showing up to shows just to beat the crap out of people. Which was missing the point, but not by much. Moshing is inherently sexist – it’s male aggression distilled to its essence. And that’s fine at a Cro-Mags show, but stupid as it crossed to, well, every other band on earth. Seeing a punk show from a girl’s point of view was the end of enjoying violence at shows for me.
But screw crowd surfers. They were always just trying to scam a better place to see the show. Stage diving? Awesome. But work your way to the back, not the front.

I do not disagree with that statement.
Are you a chick from Hammond?

What I remember most about those 90's concerts was if u were on the floor (which was the best place to be) u would have to fight your way to front passed all the moshing.
I also remember being at a Smashing Pumpkins concert where they had folding chairs set up on the floor. I hated that!

People enjoy music in certain ways and I get that. I personally don't have a problem with Moshing as long as it doesn't affect me, which is almost impossible if I am anywhere near the pit, which always seems to be the case.

funniest thing I ever saw was a couple months back at the Dropkick Murphys in NOLA. A guy with a cowboy hat, big buckle, western shirt and boots jumped in the pit. He was waving his hat around like he was on a bull. He got clobbered. There was also a bride and groom in the pit. It was hilarious. I agree that pits dont go for every show. If you are seeing a punk or thrash show then expect a pit. Punks robbed someone and paid good money for a ticket just like everyone else.

I feel like only Metal bands have mosh pits at their shows these days

Also seems that festivals now have folks just bobbing up and down instead of actually slam dancing.
because they want to listen to the music and think that slam dancing is stupid

but it sucks that kids these days don't get to take part
no it doesn't, because if they do it, I have to be around it.

I was witness to a skank circle at a Bad Brains show in the 80s. That was the most severe shite ever. Makes "moshing" seem like romper room. Circle Jerks, Bad Brains, DOA, Murphy's Law, Agent Orange, Agnostic Front...all had huge skank circles. Slam dancing was on the periphery. Mosh wasn't a term until grunge came along to the best of my recollection.
At Lollapalooza '93, trying to get my Primus on, some douche kept crowd surfing over my head. I put two hands up and slammed the ever living shite out of him. He was almost in tears....

I can't think of a show I would go to where a mosh pit might break out.

Holy crap......the bands you bring up barely have hard enough music to mosh too. And basically they suck.
Try checking out a Slipknot or Lamb of God show....or throw in some Slayer....and just sit back and watch.....it is bad arse to check out.
