What do yall think of The Decemberists?

I virtually never see them mentioned around here and they are easily one of my favorite current bands....

The Decemberists are one of my favorite bands. The "King is Dead" has that nice country/folk feeling. Their best two albums in my opinion are "Picaresque" and "The Crane Wife". I can't say enough about them. Also like having to check a dictionary every now and then when Colin Meloy uses his hyper-literate vocabulary. Love this band!

I'm not that big into them. I saw them at Roo last year, and I just wasn't feeling their sound.

He has a very unique ability to write some mind numbing great poetry that moves me to my core even though I don't know what in the hell 3/4 of the words mean

Love em. Maybe my favorite band from the last 10 years. I think Hazards of Love is their masterpiece.

Really like The King is Dead. Great album. Not as big a fan of their other albums besides Crane Wife.

A band that has two or three really interesting tracks per album with the remainder ranging from "meh" to almost suckage. In concert, they seem so nice that you really want to like them. But 30-45 minutes or so is enough.

I have found very few songs by them that I don't really enjoy.

One of the better bands out there. California One/Youth and Beauty Brigade is a freaking opus.

Also, Tarkio, Meloy's band prior to the Decemberists, are pretty phenomenal, too. More folky, though.

I have been listening to them for like ten years. One track will be absolutely great and the next will sound like it was written for teenage girls. But once you go through all their music and make a playlist, it's pretty damn long.

One of those bands I've heard songs of over the past ten years or so, but due to the sheer volume of music available now, have never bought any of their stuff.
I remember when they first started out thinking they had a sound very similar to Neutral Milk, I'm sure it's evolved over the years...

I started with the album, Picaresque, and its a great intro to their sound. There is no overall theme/story arc they are telling so each track is unique. Check out that one and maybe move to Castaways and Cutouts.
