Nice...

I'm not sure if his older show Fishing with John is available anywhere, but its definitely worth the watch.. It's only 6 episodes and he has some great guests (Tom Waits, Dennis Hopper, Jim Jarmusch, Willem Dafoe and Matt Dillon)... also, he knows absolutely nothing about fishing

edit:It's streaming on The Criterion Channel

Leon Belasco was a reasonably busy bandleader in the 1930s, who gradually gravitated to acting, becoming a familiar (if somewhat minor) character-actor for the remaining decades of his life. Often can be spotted playing headwaiters and such in films/tv of the 1940s-1950s.

It was something of an unusual career path.

I always wondered why David Bowie did not star in more movies. He was always top notch in the ones he did.l Like The Prestige, Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence and The Last Temptation of Christ to name a few.

Always thought he could have been a truly great actor on top of a great musician

Steve Earle (The Wire most notably, but others).

ETA - Lowell George in F Troop (credit to Kafka for this gem).

I have the exact opposite opinion about Bowie. I think he was so great at creating a musical persona and expended so much energy doing that, he wasn't a particularly good actor. (I may be biased, because one of the first roles of him that jumps to my mind was him playing Andy Warhol in Basquiat and he was terribad.)

The same thing applies to Madonna - the only movie she was any good in was Desperately Seeking Susan and that's because she was playing herself in it (it also helps that Into the Groove-era Madonna was SMOKING FINE)
