Damn this is really unexpected. Not a big fan of his, but still Pantera was a huge part of my teen years. Looks like Phil is gonna be the last man standing.

Wow, that's unexpected. His drumming is what initially drew me into Pantera. One of my all-time favorites. RIP!

I was in Vegas in April and went to see Carrot Top at the Luxor and was sitting outside the theater before showtime and Vinnie walked by. My friends didn't know what I was talking about when I said hey that's Vinnie Paul from Pantera. Then he was sitting in the row in front of us during the show. Carrot Top passed out shots to the audience and when he walked by he said this is Vinnie Paul the greatest drummer in the world or something like that. I thought this was the greatest thing ever until later when I read an an Esquire magazine article online which referenced Vinnie Paul and the 285th time he'd seen Carrot Top's show.

Also I saw Pantera on the Cowboys From Hell Tour and it was awesome and Phil Anselmo stage dived on top of me.

Legend

He lives in the Dallas area and famously owns a full nude BYOB heavy metal strip club called the Clubhouse. Had my bachelor party there and every time I went he would sit front row with a big arse cowboy hat on.

Anytime a rocker was in town they would be there. Nothing like getting a full nude lap dance to Tool or NIN

RIP

Yeah been to the Clubhouse a few times. Cool place.
Pantera died when Dime died and I wasn’t a Vinnie fan after the breakup, but sucks for the family. I’m guessing heart attack as he liked the hookers n blow and was obviously overweight.

Which is amazing. Was listening to Walk yesterday and told my son that Phil was already an alcoholic when he was around 16. My friend was in the band that Phil left for Pantera back then.

Has to be a heart attack. Dude lived life to the fullest and I heard he had hit the bottle hard since Dimes passing.

I usually see him at all the big metal shows here in Dallas as he split his time between Dallas & his home in Vegas. I looked in the VIP area at the Bomb Factory at the Slayer show Tuesday night & didn't see him & thought that was odd. I would love to know the cause of death. RIP. A Legend.

I'm sure he was an alcoholic before Dime died.

Just coming to post this. I saw Pantera in Germany and i still listen to them. My kids have no idea what to think when I’m driving in my car.

Dimebag was a tragedy. Vinnie dying just sucks. It’s almost sad that Phil’s the only one left from my favorite band while I was in High School.

First, sad news. VP wasn't my fav drummer of all time, but his chops on 'Slaughtered' were amazing. Did Phil and he ever communicate at all? So sad.

I will listen to their cover of "Planet Caravan" and brood.

Was Troy singing for them then? My friend was in Dark August around that time. Troy started out with Dark August then made the jump over to Razor White. Razor did pretty well for a while. I still have their first album (cassette tape) in my closet. I knew most of those guys from other bands previously, like Deus Vult. The local metal scene was great back then. I miss those days. Troy is doing well with a wedding band now (No Idea), which also includes a couple of the other guys from Dark August. They are all able to make a solid living at it as opposed to it being a side job, which is pretty cool.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, sources who knew Vinnie Paul Abbott said the former PANTERA drummer had suffered "a major heart attack" when he died in his sleep on Friday, June 22 at his home in Las Vegas. He was 54 years old.

no surprise here

Yep. Some chick tried to grab his package in the front row, and he looks at her and says into the mike, "Don't do that again."

I actually have a copy of the flyer somewhere...it was us (Holocaust), Razor White, and Kings and Clowns(?)
Dark August...I remember that name from The Rusty Nail. Was their singer's name Darren?
Yeah, the scene was awesome. Was good friends with Misanthrope (later Brother) and tended bar with Chris from Chaos Horde thru my LSU career.
