My dad was a huge Van Morrison fan. He would get us up on a Saturday morning like Reville when he would put on the Hot August Night album and crank it up on this song in particular.

Thanks for posting this. Think I'll give this album a spin now.

He's a legend and he remains the face of Blue Eyed Soul. Into The Mystic and Tupelo Honey are two of the most beautiful, soulful songs ever recorded. I had the pleasure of seeing him in NOLA around 1989. He also had a fantastic band with him. One of the things that he is known for is being very aloof in concert, bordering on disdainful of his audience. Even with this, the concert was still great.

I let him talk me out of it, though if it hadn't been raining so hard I would have gone anyway

He was so fricked up for that performance. Towards the end he's almost incoherent.

That's a great performance.

Veedon Fleece is probably my favorite album behind Astral Weeks, the live versions of Bulbs are incredible

He made 6 or 7 albums in a row that were all really good. Moondance is one of the best albums ever. Period

Love Van Morrison. As mentioned Astral Weeks is top notch. I also like Poetic Champions Compose, Moondance, The Healing game and St. Dominic's Preview to name a few others.
A good live one I have come to enjoy is 'It's Too late to Stop Now' From that, I Believe to My Soul is a great bluesy tune.

This whole album shows his great gift for string arrangements

Van is one of the greatest, ever.
Funny thing is I really don't get Astral Weeks at all. My favorite thing he did was His Band and the Street Choir. And Domino is in the conversation for best song ever. Van with horns is perfection.
2 of the best ever:

Are we going to gloss over the face that Kafka waited 6 years to bump this thread?
