Is there a better album than 1984?

Van Halen 1
Van Halen 2
WACF
Fair Warning

These 4 are better IMHO.

Sammy Hagar was the better singer and songwriter.

Montrose was Sammy's only food band.

Love his TV show on AXS and his general personality, but David Lee Roth has about a thousand times the personality and stage presence that Sammy ever had

You're a legit fricking retard if you think Hagar was better than DLR.

What exactly is Roth better at than Hagar other than gymnastics?

Are you one of those "only my opinion counts" people?

Best front man of all time.

Not my favorite band by any means, and he’s not the best singer, but he could work a crowd like no other.

I wish they had changed the band’s name with Hagar. That was not Van Halen with a new singer - they were a different band with a different type of (inferior) music.

DLR in a landslide, and that’s not to say that I don’t like the Van Hagar stuff.

The answer is DLR, BUT "OU812" is a great album too IMO. Without Hagars vocals those songs all sound wrong.

I'm another one who likes them both. I've seen both live and enjoyed the hell out of them.

I honestly believe SH is a better singer/musician, but let’s face it....DLR was one hell of a front man and had the attitude that helped drive the band.

DLR

I understand preferring DLR, but I also think Hagar gets too much blame for the direction of the band after he joined. Eddie wrote the music, introduced keyboards (actually did that on 1984), incorporated ballads, etc. He had a lot of the music for 5150 written before Sammy even joined. Just would have been different lyrics with Dave’s voice.

I do think that the later Sammy albums were a bit more tailored to his voice, but again, ballads and the softer sound in general were subject to Eddie’s writing.

To Ace’s point about Eddie being a miserable human being, I could not agree more and I say that as a huge fan of his talent. His treatment of Michael Anthony is inexcusable.

Without DLR they likely never break it big and are sacking groceries today.
