Eno had a lot to do with that

I think U2 is hit or miss but I’ve never understood why One was such a popular song for them.

A deeper cut I like is trip through your wires

I also theorize that Edge gave himself his own nickname like a douche but has created made up backstories for it so he doesn’t look like a douche

War, Boy, October and Unforgettable Fire are great albums. Joshua Tree is when I lost interest in them.

Unpopular opinion: Joshua Tree made them superstars, The Unforgettable Fire is their best album.

but Joshua Tree will always rank near the top of albums for me.
There isn't a good song on it.

Spot on.

Joshua Tree is when they "sold out" for more pop friendly songs. Unforgettable Fire is unique and esoteric.

I'd pick Aerosmith.

Or Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

And I think Guns n Roses is terrible, but I know that won't be a shared sentiment.

I don’t know if I’d go that far, but yeah, they’re pretty awful.

I do too.

You lost me on this one.

As for U2, I've never liked them. But they are far from the worst of the bigger bands of the last few decades.

I would put them ahead of U2 in this regard.

They had one amazing record...arguably the best debut of any band ever ......and have been trading off that for the last 35 years

Americans think Blink 182 is the greatest punk band of all time. I wouldn’t go dissing U2.

"The guitar work is nuanced and beautiful. Great rhythm section. Soaring vocals. They haven’t been hungry and creative in long time but they had about 15-20 years of being elite.

Respectfully disagree"

... kind of agree with you here. Their first 5 albums were great, with Boy and October groundbreaking and powerful. And as far as guitar work goes, there are a handful of guitarists who normally are not at the top of a "greatest guitarist of all times" list, but the sounds that they make with their guitars are the driving force behind complete genres of rock n' roll. Keith Richards is one of those guitarists and so is The Edge.

Bon Jovi and Van Halen would disagree.
