This is why they went downhill

He’s a dry drunk. You could see how unhappy he was and they sped up songs to get done quicker

Just have a beer bro. Surely your life can’t be that bad, you could work for a living like the rest of us

How does that happen?
I have heard stories of bands insisting on their own sound guy instead of using the person who knows the venue better than anyone. I personally know nothing of this though.

Didn’t they perform at the Varsity in 2015 before they got big? Did anyone happen to go to that concert and how was it?

I saw them at the varsity like 4 times they used to come like twice a year

The “alt country” genre blew up over Covid and guys like turnpike and Tyler Childers that hadn’t released music in a few years all of a sudden went from varsity tier to playing big concerts overnight

Tyler Childers

Saw him in North Little Rock last weekend at the 18,000-seat Simmons Bank Arena. Looked like a sell out or close to it.

I was surprised and pleased at how many young people were there. Lots of 20-30 somethings, even kids that looked like teens. Some of the "kids these days" do like good music.

I feel like once the usaid money dries up ultralib musicians like Tyler Childers will go back to being broke again

He hasn’t released anything good since like 2017 and you can’t be like I’m sober but here are the two songs I wrote about drugs that you like

The whole genre is super astroturfed it’s kind of embarrassing

Includes song by song discussion, with YouTube clips to some.

Saw them there i think 3 times. The last time I went was shortly after the Turnpike Troubadours album. Evan was obviously on a coke bender and it was still awesome

Have done a listen through

Very consistently TT. I suspect a couple will grow on me and become highlights, but not sure if there will end up being a live favorite/crowdpleaser on this one.

No complaints, just may not be anything my wife replays to death (ie, Brought Me) on this.

I like this new album a lot. Red River is an amazing song and an absolute gut punch. I was not prepared for that right out of the gate at 5:30 this morning. Ruby Ann playing currently.

Either some of y'all have terrible luck with them live or I have great luck. Saw them in Indy recently and they sounded great. The show at Billy Bob's when they started touring again was incredible.

I get the idea somewhat- i think they seem tighter and more polished these days and arguably a little less fun as a result. But i haven’t noticed major sound issues (including at the aforementioned Red Rocks show)

I saw them years ago at the soul kitchen in mobile and it was awesome. Then at the last show at the wharf the sound was a muddled mess. I think their sound guy was out of his element.

Listened to it twice today. I like it better than the last album. I’m digging the music and it will take a few more listens for the lyrics to start sinking in. I like that they dropped the album all at once. I’m not a fan of the periodic song releases. It’s just not exciting for the fans.

Cat in the Rain was definitely a step down compared to other albums

I disagree. I thought that was one of their best albums. Fantastic.

This new one is just ok to me.

Same here, saw em at Billy Bob’s at the end of 2023. Thought they sounded great

Don’t get me wrong. TT dont have a bad album, but I preferred their older stuff to Cat in the Rain which was still a great one.

Outside of a few cuts, this isn’t the album you’ll be playing on the pontoon, but it’ll be great for some late night driving.

Saw them in God’s Country Thursday, they played great. Old classics mostly. Enjoyed them more than CCR

Everyone was talking about how great their sound was all weekend. Not sure if they got a new sound guy or the festival had one, but all reports sound like their sound was crisp and they were finally clicking as a band again.

This album is definitely badass…as all their others are.
