A lot of people know this bit of trivia: "Eye of the Tiger" is the classic song from the training montage in Rocky III; however, Stalone originally wanted "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen but couldn't secure the rights to it.
Less known trivia is that another song was also in the running for that famous scene in Rocky III. That song was "You're the Best" by Joe Esposito. Not only did Stalone pass on this song, but it was also in consideration to be in the movie Flashdance which ultimately went in another direct too when it used "Maniac" instead.
"You're the Best" eventually has its moment though when it lands in another classic 80's movie, The Karate Kid.

In relation to Rocky, Hall and Oates' "Grounds for Separation" was slated to be the main theme song of the original movie - Rocky over "Gonna Fly Now" by Bill Conti.
Frank Stallone, Sylvester’s brother, was in a band with John Oates called Valentine back in 1970 and this connection got them a shot at an appearance, but the premiere was delayed and Hall and Oates pulled the song from the movie.

And George Harrison does uncredited backing vocals. But both are on the original album version, not the Greatest Hits version.
The 1968 James Taylor album, which included Carolina, was released by Apple Records (Beatles label) and had Paul and George on it.
When it came time for the '76 Greatest Hits album, at the end of his Warner contract, there were issues getting licensing rights from Apple, and no one could easily find the masters from the original recording, so the song (along with Something in the Way She Moves) was rerecorded. Meaning that the most well-known version of the song is missing the Beatles connection.

Interesting. I didn't know this, but when you listen to Tunnel of Love and Romeo and Juliet off that album it makes perfect sense. The piano in those songs sounds just like The River-era E Street Band.

No problem. I wasn't trying to be snarky. After reading my response above your reply, it may have seemed that way.
If you are anywhere near the Tri-Cities you should definitely go see both of those studios. The Alabama music HOF is close by also, and worth seeing. You can make a nice day trip out of it if you are within a few hours drive.
There was some real magic there. I know FAME gives tours, and I think MSSS does also. My family went back when the fundraising was going on to renovate MSSS, and it was sort of a shell of what it used to be, but you could still feel that there was something there, and there was the graffiti on the walls from all the people who played there, the old sound treatments on the walls, the iso booths, etc...
As for FAME, it is worth the trip by itself IMHO.
Also, if you have not seen the movie "Muscle Shoals" you need to watch it. Definitely watch it before you take a trip there.

The FAME tour was guided by one of their employees, a young guy in his mid-20s who grew up in the area and was quite knowledgeable. We only did the basic tour, for an extra fee you could do the "Backstage" tour, where you got to spend time in other areas of the studio. FAME Studio Tours
The MSSS tour was by a middle-aged lady volunteer who also knew her stuff. Best part of that tour was that she encouraged visitors to plunk around on the instruments in the studio, including the actual grand piano used on Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock & Roll" and the original studio recording of "Free Bird", amongst many others. Also had a replica of David Hood's 1961 Fender Jazz bass, which I particularly enjoyed playing. MSSS Tour

These are practically common knowledge, but
The f-word can be heard in "Hey Jude"
Paul plays drums on “Back in the U.S.S.R.”, “Dear Prudence”, "Martha My Dear" and "The Ballad of John and Yoko."
Clapton plays lead guitar on "While my Guitar Gently Weeps".
Mick Jagger sanf background vocals on "You're So Vain".

James Taylor was the first act signed to Apple Records I believe. George sang back up on "Carolina". Only on the original version. The version we are most familiar with did not include either Beatle.

The song , “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morrisette, is about Dave Coulier- “Uncle Joey” from Full House.

The EMF song Unbelievable (probably) holds the record for the most unedited appearances of the f-word in a Billboard Hot 100 #1 song.
The song samples the phrase "What the frick was that" taken from a Black Panther protest in the 1960s, and the word is heard (though mixed into the background) a total of 17 times.

the recorded version of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". It was a first take, and none of the band members had ever heard the song or seen the music prior to the take - in fact they weren't supposed to record it that day, but they still had some studio time left and one of the band members said to Gordon lets record that song you've been working on. Gordon had to nod at the drummer when he wanted to come in.
They tried to record it with many more takes and none were ever as good as the first.

Not really a trivial song fact, but John Phillips, aka Papa John Phillips, of the Mamas & Papas was briefly a cadet at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Since we are getting into the holidays, here is one about Christmas music.
Even though he had recorded a cover of the original version in 1948, when recording Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in 1957 for his A Jolly Christmas album, Frank Sinatra had the songwriter change the line "Until then we'll have to muddle through somehow" to "Hang a shining star upon the highest bough," because the original lyric wasn't jolly enough.

The fellows from Badfinger are the backup singers in It Don’t Come Easy (also this is a George song that he gave to Ringo, George version is out there on YouTube LINK and it’s the better version IMO, but both great)
The Eagles are the backup singers on Fire Lake
John Candy and other celebs are the ones singing Ghostbusters! On Ray Parker Jrs hit
