two shows announced today

April 1, 2024 – New Orleans, Louisiana – Saenger Theatre
April 2, 2024 – Lafayette, Louisiana – Heymann Performing Arts Center

opinions understandably vary as to whether or not he puts on a “good” show. If you are wanting studio versions, you’ll be disappointed. If you want to see the man, though…here’s your chance

I saw Willie, Melloncamp and Dylan at The Wharf in Orange Beach over ten years ago.

Dylan and his band came out In Tuxedos and Fedoras. It was certainly a show. It definitely wasn’t the studio album audience sing-a-long.

My only disappointment was that I would have liked to have seen Willie and Bob on stage for one song together. The show was three distinct performances/sets.

I've seen him once in 2013. I'm not the biggest dylan fan but I like him well enoguh and figured it was one of my last shots to ever see him live. That show was...not great. There were 3 acts on the bill and he was BY FAR the worst of the 3. I can't imagine what his show is like 15 years later.

he’s 82
more than likely this will be my last chance to see my favorite musician and the most important artist in American musical history

so I’m gonna get as close as I can at the Saenger and soak it in

Honestly it’s fairly amazing he’s still out on the road playing every night. You can legitimately be dumbfounded that a guy like him is playing a show in Lafayette LA on a Tuesday night

I went to Shreveport two years ago to see him with this same attitude, but it was probably the worst concert I’ve ever been to.

Ran into him once on Esplanade Avenue in NOLA 12-15 years ago just out taking a walk on a Sunday evening.

He's sounded the way he does now for like 25 years and people still go and are shocked.

Last time I saw him, it really good, just a few years ago.

It's gotten to where it's almost cool to bitch about it, meh.

A family member went and just sent me this:

Did not play a single one of the hits. Cannot understand a word he was fricking saying, might be the worst concert I’ve ever been to. Musicians were great but overall it sucked.

83 years old and he's still trying.
Most 83 year olds couldn't even stand out there.
He's been doing it for 65 years almost constantly.

Your family member is an idiot then. He played several notable songs. The playlist has been posted in advance and is the same for every stop. If all they know is like a rolling stone, then they were going to be disappointed. He definitely dove deep into the catalogue but “to be alone with you” and “every grain of sand” are pretty well known to anyone with a causal knowledge of bob Dylan.

Anyway, He didn’t just blow away expectations, he annihilated them. His piano playing was crisp and powerful and his voice was strong and full of inflection. There were definitely times he mumbled the lyrics but as a whole it was an excellent show and the crowd was loving it.

I’m not arguing with you, but I think your definition of “casual knowledge” may be a bit more advanced than most people. I’d argue that +95% of 20-30 year olds have never even heard of those two songs.

Just got back from the concert. No matter what anyone thinks about the performance itself, it’s just an amazing experience to get to see someone like that in concert.
