I was gonna buy a steel guitar but they’re like 1100 bucks so I can’t justify it for something that would mostly be a conversation piece

I’ll put all of sweetheart of the rodeo as my submission

LOVE the lap steel sound.

Even Steely Dan used it.

Pete Drake and his talking steel guitar

The tube in Pete Drake's mouth is part of a talk box, a device he used to make his steel guitar "talk." It works by routing the guitar's amplified sound through a plastic tube into his mouth, where he shapes the sound by forming words silently. The modulated sound is then picked up by a microphone, creating a vocal-like effect. Drake popularized this technique in the 1960s, notably on his hit "Forever," and influenced later musicians like Peter Frampton.

David Lindley on just about anything. I saw Jackson Browne in the late seventies, and Lindley was tearing up the steel guitar, especially on Redneck Friend.

I always wished that lineup of the stones would have gone to Nashville and made a country album. Put nicky hopkins on piano, wood on pedal steel, jagger on acoustic rhythm/harmonica and Richards on telecaster and make the stones’ version of sweetheart of the rodeo
