Yes, that may be the very saddest. Forgot all about this song too.

Annie Lennox - Into The West

Even though the lyrics are supposed to be encouraging I find this song to be incredibly depressing for some reason.

Allies - I’m Crying

I guarantee you none of you have ever heard this song, and I also guarantee you it’s as sad as any song posted so far...a friend of mine was in this band back in the day...you owe it to yourself to give it a quick listen...

These Are The Days Of Our Lives - Queen

Great call, I came in here to post this song. Another Queen song high on the list is One Year Of Love. Kind of an overlooked song from their catalog but it's a masterpiece ballad.

ETA: Here's an excellent live version of TATDOOL with Roger singing.

Jason Isbell- Elephant

I don’t know if it’s the saddest, but it’s sad. And great.

This one by Isbell as well. If We Were Vampires

[quote]Dr Witchel commenting on the results said, “Music is undeniably powerful at triggering different emotional states. Changes in tempo and frequencies induce profoundly different emotional states. A slow tempo song like the Verve’s The Drugs Don’t Work slows down the heart
compared to most of the other songs and compared to white noise – in other words, it works like the emotional state of sadness.”

In contrast, the research found that Lily Allen’s “LDN”, Abba’s “Dancing Queen” and R.E.M’s “Shiny Happy People” were the ones guaranteed to bring on a smile.

Blur’s “Song 2” topped the ‘exhilerating’ songs list by quite some way, Witchel said, “I was surprised that Blur’s Song 2 could be such a clear winner among our participants.”

The research found that the saddest ten songs were:

1. The Verve – The Drugs Don't Work The Verve

The song Sandy wrote about missing Texas. It was so sad it made Mr. Krabbs cry when he was counting money.

I don’t think that is even that sad. To me songs about lost love aren’t anywhere close to songs about death.
