Young Agent Jones - Dying to Meet you

One of the best bands to ever come out of Starkville, but Starkville just never could get behind a power pop band.

Van Duren - "New Year's Eve"

LINK
quote:

Van Duren is synonymous with the 70's Memphis Power Pop scene, playing with the likes of Chris Bell and Jody Stephens and at one point auditioning as the 2nd guitar player for Big Star just before the band's demise. Van Duren went on to leave Memphis to record one of the great albums of the late 70's, Are You Serious?, and is still releasing albums and playing live around Memphis.

Van Duren formed a band called Good Question that played all around Memphis in the mid to late ‘80’s. These guys were best band in town for a while.

Van Duren/Good Question - Can I Just Tell You - Probably 1988 or so.

I may get crap for this but to me Stacy’s Mom by Fountains of Wayne is a pretty perfect example of excellently crafted and marketable power pop.
