I have some good Walter Becker stories for you if we ever have an IRL.

Let's just say stories overheard while in a hospital.

examples? elaborate? just because the beatles were in the 60s doesn't mean that decade automatically wins

Well, the 60s also have the Velvets, the Kinks, the Who, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrex, and the Beach Boys all at their creative peaks.

So it's not totally crazy to say the 60s.

Though I love the 80s. Really. There was so much going on, particularly in the underground... there's just such a wide variance of stuff going on. It's a really cool decade when pretty much any wild arse idea could make it on radio. The pop machinery broke down for a few years (thanks, MTV!) and some truly bizarre crap became wildly popular before the machinery caught back up. Only in the 80s could Devo have a hit single and ZZ Top be sex symbols.

this i know, but the dude's been slobbing on the beatles' collective knob since this board started, so i'm pretty sure that's the main reason he's arguing for 60s.

The Beach boys were great. The 60's set UP the 70's.The early 60's were MUCH different from the late 60's. Thats when you got REALLY creative. The Doors were magic in a bottle. GREAT SONG WRITING By Morrison. CSNY's 4 way street was a great live album. BUT the 70's were strong the whole decade. THE MTV age destroyed alot about music for me. It was about putting on a video more than creating GREAT music.IMO.

No musicians were striving to create great music; just trying to make it on TRL.

are we going by decades as in 70's 80's? or just a 10 year span?

The 70's were easily the best going by the 70's 80's thing.

but mid 60's say 65-66 to mid 70's 75-76 might have been better

I guess you're one of these people that hate on the Beatles just to be cool and different.

False. Do you even know how much great music existed in the 60s? Maybe you should do some reading and listening.
