The correct answer is something closer to that, IMO.

And Bieber is definitely solo Lennon. All the songs are about girls and love and all that cheesy pop bullshite.

Wilco. Many of their songs are Beatles-esque...

so back where I started...

NOT what groups of the past decade or so sound like the Beatles, or no comparison to the Beatles in accomplishment.

Thinking of who the Beatles matured to as musicians- Abbey Road, All Things Must Pass, Lennon solo, Wings, etc...

Now take those guys being early 20's in the late 90's/2000s instead of the early 60's. What direction or what kind of group would they have become? What groups of that era reflect similar musical genes?

That was my QOTSA/Homme suggestion... great vocals, creative writing, not afraid to experiment, good guitar riffs but not especially lead driven, some rebellious in your face fukkit attitude.

Oasis is another you can see many of those same traits in. Radiohead very good as experimenters pioneering new sounds. Not quite enough straight rock tho

Sounds like wilco, except wilco is a million times better than QOTSA/Homme.

There are no beatles of the 21st century.

commercially, you could make the argument for coldplay, but I don't know if any of their records are on the level of Sgt. Pepper, White album, revolver, etc...

Correct

The Beatles were geniuses. There is NO ONE in the music business today with 1/8 of the talent the fab four had.

So yes, no one is the correct answer.

Pft.... Classic Beatles fanboy response.

I love The Beatles. They are in the running for my favorite band ever, but even I thought the 1/8 comment was a bit over the top.
