This requires some knowledge of both the '60s and this century...

What group(s) do you think the Beatles would be most like today if they had started in the past 15 years?

My nominee is Josh Homme, QOTSA, or one of his incarnations. Great vocals, good & creative song writing, along with catchy riffs.

The Gallagher Bros wish. Morning Glory is a great album though!

Oasis is the greatest British band since the Beatles. That's a matter of parliamentary fact, entered into record by one Mr. Michael Shersby...8 times in one month, in fact.

Of course I had to look that SNL transcript up...like I could remember a one-off character name from 1996...

Correct

The Beatles were geniuses. There is NO ONE in the music business today with 1/8 of the talent the fab four had.

So yes, no one is the correct answer.

Oh please... The Stones are still together, so that's one better band right there.

Agreed.

The Beatles were unique because they were unique. It seems like the music industry sells bands as being unique because they know a select (and large) demographic will purchase their music.

But it is a different time with different tastes.

The New Pornographers on songs Neko Case doesn't sing. I really like power pop, I wish there were more good power pop bands.

The Beatles were mainly a rock band,.which was not mainstream at the time, then turned into pop. So a fair comparison would be a group/artist that turned an "alternative" sound into pop with mainstream success. That being said, the only sound out today that fits the bill would be club/dj/dance techno...10 years ago it would have been hip hop/rap that went mainstream.

FYI, I am not insinuating lil Wayne is the new beatles. Musically, there is no equal to the Beatles currently. Progressing new music, its prolly someone from hip hop/rap or dance techno.

I really can't think of any. I don't think there are any. Commercially there is no comparison to any band in the 21st Century and artistically there isn't a band out there that can hold a candle to them that is of the 21st Century.

Commercially maybe, but I don't think you can say artistically.

I think I can. How many other bands out there can lay claim to albums of the quality of Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles, and Abbey Road? Even their first album, Please Please Me, is more influential than most of the albums you are apt to find today.

probably Radiohead or Coldplay.

The Beatles were experimentalists and Radiohead is definitely the same. Coldplay has a similar experimentalist bent but is way poppier than Radiohead.
