Just curious, Corey Smith used to pack the Varsity, but last few shows are at Texas Club.
Why switch venues?

I'll tell Corey to come back to the varsity
He did really well there

Just because nobody's said them yet, and they are one of my favorite live acts who could likely pull a decently strong crowd at the Varsity, my addition is:
Band of Skulls
Light of the Morning
I Know What I Am
Sweet Sour

So I think this is a "reasonable" list:
All pretty well known acts that would do well
quote:
Gary Clark Jr.
The sheepdogs
Alabama Shakes
Middle Brother
Grace Potter
Third Eye Blind
Wallflowers
Toadies
Manchester Orchestra
Drive by truckers
Beach House
moe.
Death Cab for Cutie
Ryan Bingham
Mogwai
Explosions in the sky
Sigur ros
Fitz and the Tantrums
All pretty well known acts that would do well

I want the band of heathens and American aquarium

No idea if they have been mentioned but
New Pornographers
Hold Steady
The Walkmen
Saw all 3 at small venues in Nashville and they were great.

Jesus and Mary Chain just announced some fall dates on the West Coast. They are playing HOB in SD and Vegas. They might be a little too big for the Varsity though.
Morrissey is also touring and playing small venues and some unusual places. Most of the places he's playing have a capacity greater than 1000 though. For example, in Texas, he's not playing Dallas or Houston, but he's playing Wichita Falls, Pharr, and Beaumont.
Also, in October, JJ Grey and Mofro will be in the area. They are playing Shreveport, San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Austin.

Opened for Corey smith

I'd like Silverchair next now that your buddy landed Bush.
Posted on 6/19/12 at 1:03 pm to TheDoc
Ahh that would be why. I fricking hate Corey smith
Posted on 6/19/12 at 1:04 pm to CottonWasKing
Yeah, not my favorite either but it really helped AA out regionally playing in front of 1000 people every night. They stole the show every time they opened.

Are you suggesting a free show at the Varsity?
Posted on 6/19/12 at 1:14 pm to TheDoc
Not that stealing a Corey smith show would be that difficult
but good for them regardless
Posted on 6/19/12 at 1:15 pm to CottonWasKing
I think AFI would do well at the varsity.
Posted on 6/19/12 at 1:18 pm to TheDoc
Idk maybe. They wouldve been amazing about 6 years ago
