Sturgill......take your own advice,

quote:

I don’t have to do a god damn thing but sit around and wait to die.

Also you were right about one thing,

quote:

That old man upstairs,
He wears a crooked smile
Staring down on the chaos he created
He said son if you ain't having fun just wait a little while
Momma's gonna wash it all away
And she thinks mercy's overrated

I was kind of excited about this guy when I first stumbled upon him, but the more he opened his mouth the more I drifted away. For someone who is supposedly so against the limelight and mainstream, he sure does seem to need a lot of attention. Just shut up and sing your songs. He’s pretty much in Eddie Vedder territory with me now...

Pretty high percentage to be a coincidence. I wonder why this may be?

Actually that’s a high percentage of people having a political view at all much less the same one.

If his political agenda was the same as yours you would be praising him. You are not mad at him for having a political opinion, you are mad because it is not the same as yours.

Also read up on some of the stuff he has done for Vets. You would be hard pressed to find any other singer that has done more for wounded Vets. Actions speak a lot louder than words.

Not a fan of his music at all but I respect him for not sucking up to his mouthbreathing fan base.

If his political opinions didn’t confirm your own, you might be put off by it.

The problem may be he has the same tired political agenda as everyone else in media, as another poster pointed out. His take is not interesting or novel, there is really no need to share it unless you want people to know which side you are on.

Perhaps his political views are shared to grow his fan base? You know, since he already has the mouth breathers locked up despite his views.

You couldn't be more wrong. Some people just don't like getting into the political BS constantly. I'm one of them. You are right though, I don't agree with some of the stuff he says. I also think people like Trump need to shut up sometimes as well. Don't just make a blanket statement and try to lump people into one category just based on one statement. Pretty ignorant thing to do.

Am I, or is anybody for that matter, saying that he is a shitty human being who doesn't do enough? Again, you are making blanket assumptions based off of me simply saying I could do without all the political stuff from one of my favorite artist. Get over yourself.

Sturgill needs, craves attention and acceptance (see his stunts outside the Grammies).

Turns out, it is super easy to be accepted in Nashville by the cool kids if you are a hyper-partisan liberal.

Sturgill and Isbell are just swimming in the direction of the stream (while wanting us to believe they are nonconformists).

I suppose they are non-conformists relative to most of those that form their original fanbase. However, their masters are the producers and labels (and in Isbell’s case, his crazy arse wife).

In the end, if you trade what made you great with what made you woke, you have to live with the consequences.

They dont make their living off of selling records... Touring is where the money comes from..

They happen to think different than you and all that bullshite rationalization above is just that... bullshite..

And who do you think is paying for promotions? Your record deal and touring success are very much intertwined.

You think you are getting on a late night show with a MAGA on

Food for thought.

We aren’t surprised. We know that they have to have those views or not have a career in their field. It is just like Hollywood. You are not allowed to think on your own.

I don’t listen to country music, don’t know who this is, and don’t care. These “artists” feel like they have to earn street cred by disparaging President Trump.

frick them.

For singer-songwriters, the IP rights contractually negotiated with labels absolutely makes them money, and makes it over a long period. Once you’ve established yourself, they get very large signing bonuses for multi-album deals.

They make money touring too. You are correct about that though.

Regardless, Nashville is filled with former LA and NY producers, mixers, etc. it is filled with very left wing folks at the top, making the decisions.

It’s easy for Sturgill and Jason to exist there. I do think they both believe what they say (to an extent...they aren’t giving all their money away to the causes they push, I can assure you).

I think it’s great to feel strongly about your position. I think it’s idiotic to push easily refuted nonsense like Sturgill pushed (earlier in thread) and crap like Isbell pushes like Black Lives Matter.

Support liberal causes that can be factually substantiated.
