I'm pretty sure Isbell puts out his own records (I could be wrong)..

And it doesn't sound like Sturgill is kissing Elektra's arse..

No one is forcing you to follow Sturgill Simpson on social media. Not a soul.

He does. And songwriters make most their money off touring. Majority of it.

People here might be surprised but 99.9% of the bands and songwriters you listen to have the exact same political views as sturgill.

Remember when musicians used to be independent, masculine, rebels?

Now they all just suck that corporate dick and are puppets to appease and attract mindless sheep.

Makes you wonder what % are being real and what % are just sellouts to stack that cash.

Well I promise you sturgills opinions are of his own, whether they are based in fact or hysterical outrage.

Well, I don't. So there is that. I was commenting on something I read here, kind of like how you are doing. Is that ok with you?

The point was you were saying it was being “shoved down your throat”. It literally is not.

Sturgill has become ridiculously unlikeable over the last year or so.

His bullshite persona or whatever is summed up by this: In every interview he’s done the last 6 months he’s shite talked everybody and has said his old music is unlistenable to him. He scoffed at that dude for requesting King Turd in front of Bridgestone that night, but read his Instagram bio... Second line is King Turd of shite Mountain.... So what is it? Are you above all of your old music and are we losers for enjoying it/not smart enough to get the new stuff or are you still King Turd? Don’t criticize and polarize your fan base because they prefer the old stuff, and then still call yourself King Turd. Figure it out, man.

This isn’t anything new from him. He said he was already sick of his newest album before the tour even started. And he’s always been kind of embarrassed of King Turd because it was a cheap, throw away song he was begrudgingly pushed to put on that album. Nonetheless, he still plays almost a full set of old stuff.

Half the reason I even bothered to post this was that the article referred to him as a Country singer which I hoped would infuriate him if he read TD. He is now a Japanese anime voiceover artist formerly known as Sturgill.

Sturgill is a miserable old bitch. It's a shame that someone with that amount of talent and good fortune is so unhappy. Someone needs to get Tyler Childers away from he before he gets corrupted.

Good - dude is a huge attention seeker and loves letting people know how much he hates DJT. Hope he has a miserable few weeks.

I never agree that stuff musicians post on social media is shoved down anyone's throat. Social media for musicians exists to give fans more than just music.

If you aren't a fan of getting a musician's opinions on other stuff, you can just buy records. When you start going to social media, you start getting into their outside life and opinions.

It just seems totally the expected result of engaging on social media.

You have to. Otherwise you've got Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, and OLD Hank Williams Jr. 1970's Hank Jr probably would have had some pretty liberal anti government views.

Any artist who has given you joy musically or theatrically or literature-wise, is probably liberal or at least was in their prime.

Sturgill making up he is infected with the covid would fall in line with how he has acted over the last year or so. Would not shock me.

Do I agree with sturgills political musings? No

Do I enjoy his music? Absolutely

People can listen to whatever they want to. They can also ignore his social media commentary on politics at the same time. It’s funny to me that people wouldn’t listen to music they enjoyed where the artist has different opinions as them when it comes to politics. In the entertainment world, 99% of actors and musicians are liberal. I know this, you know this. Most every informed person knows this. Doesn’t change my opinion of his music. I can separate the two. I guess some people can’t.

Man... this board really turned on Sturgill.

Only great thing he ever did was meta modern and it was truly great. Wish that fricker would return to those roots. He kind of sucks live btw

I saw him play live twice for Metamodern and he was awesome. Also non-political. Even more than his politics it seems like the little hillbilly from Pan Bowl is just not equipped to handle fame. His life has become an episode of VH-1 Behind the Music.
