I don't know of many in the 1980s (the chauffeur by Duran Duran perhaps) but in the 70s I can think of 3 just off the top of my head that really get me.

- Roxanne
- Baker Street
- Do You Think I'm Sexy

I don't know if its the melody or the fact I was such a small kid when these were popular.

What you got?

I am in my late 20's, so basically any of the crappy rock and rap from 2005-2009.

Taking Back Sunday, Yellowcard, My Chemical Romance, Lil Wayne's Carter II & III, Kanye's College Dropout (Through the Wire & Slow Jams), Lil' Boosie & Webbie Smokin on Purple and just about anything else they did.

Where we used to laugh
There's a shouting match
Sharp as a thumbnail scratch
A silence I can't ignore
Like the hammock by the
Doorway we spent time in, swings empty
Don't see lightning like last fall
When it was always about to hit me

Want to get myself back in again
The soft dive of oblivion
I want to taste the salt of your skin
The soft dive of oblivion oblivion
How's it gonna be
When you don't know me anymore

My childhood was during the 90s, so songs like these do that:

Semi Charmed Life
One Headlight
Hangin Around
Learn to Fly
Scar Tissue
Any pop songs from the 90s, spice girls, boy bands, all that shite

True by Spandau Ballet always takes me back to being high on laughing gas at the dentist while a thunderstorm is raging. It was playing in the office the first time I had laughing gas for a filling.

Songs are great for placing you right in a certain moment of time. Some for me include:

Fooled Around and Fell in Love--Elvin Bishop
Born to Run--Springsteen
Always and Forever--Heatwave (let's just say a girl was involved there...)

A lot of these take me back to that girl I had the biggest crush on in hs, my older brother's crappy garage band, that 9th grade pool party where I was completely oblivious to my chick friend dropping obvious signals, middle school dances, camping trips, long rides on the band bus, or hanging out with my burnout skate-punk friends

Sugarcult - Memory (Acoustic)

Rest of My Life - Unwritten Law

I'm Feelin' This - Blink 182

Ocean Avenue - Yellowcard

Welcome to my Life - Simple Plan

Meant to Live - Switchfoot

Until the Day I Die - Story of the Year

Stacy's Mom - Fountains of Wayne

Swing Swing - The All-American Rejects

Fatlip - Sum 41

My Own Worst Enemy - Lit

The Bunny Hop - Da Entourage

Sorry I didn't have the chance to be young during the late 60's-1990. I was a teenager in the 2000's, you play with the hand you're dealt.

Deep Purple memories washed over me once you posted this. My bus had an old 8 track and some dude always brought Deep Purple's "Machine Head" album. Still one of my favorites.

I saw an episode of Classic Albums about that one the other day. Talked about how they had to scramble to find another place to record after the casino burned down during a Frank Zappa show.

Highway Star was literally written on the tour bus on the way to a gig. There was a reporter on board and he asked what the song-writing process was like. Ritchie said, "Like this" and he started playing the same note over and over real fast. Ian started filling in the lyrics, "Nobody's gonna take my car, I'm gonna break the speed of sound, etc." They played the song for the first time at the gig that night.
