Songs That Changed Your Life

First off let me say I am a country music purist so there are many songs that have touched my life and have changed my way of thinking or the way I feel about something or someone in my life. But I am going to step away from that genre in this case.
A buddy of mine told me to check out the song In My Blood by Black Stone Cherry because he thought I would like it and he was right.
First off it's a great song throughout but there are lines in the song that moved me the first time I heard the song. The song basically talks a man that has to leave home to chase his dream and make a living, but it kills him to do it because he never wants to leave his significant other at home alone.
When the songs say...
Another day and another round
I miss the friends in my hometown
But in truth it's the reason that I leave.
Those lines speak volumes to me.

LET IT BE when it came out. I was kinda religious at the time and it made me more open to go to church. Mother Mary comforted me.

Carsie Blanton - Smoke Alarm
quote:
why do you waste your time
thinkin bout your reputation
trying to meet an expectation
wonderin what they’re gonna say
when everyone you ever known
is headed for a headstone
I don’t wanna give the end away
but we’re gonna die one day

Who Let the Dogs Out?
It made me run around on all fours like a canine for about 9 years

Honestly no music has changed my life even a little bit. And I do like music a great deal. The same goes for movies.
Books are a different animal and quite a few have influenced me from the ideas in science fiction to autobiographies to history to political writings. Music just doesn't have the time to flesh things out like a book. And most popular musicians are not all that bright.

The first time I heard Pink Floyd's Echoes in 7th grade.

Not sure it changed my life but when I was a kid I heard...
and I felt it was speaking directly to my future self.
quote:
He was born in the summer of his 27th year
Comin' home to a place he'd never been before
He left yesterday behind him, you might say he was born again
You might say he found a key for every door
When he first came to the mountains his life was far away
On the road and hangin' by a song
But the string's already broken and he doesn't really care
It keeps changin' fast and it don't last for long
quote:
He climbed cathedral mountains, he saw silver clouds below
He saw everything as far as you can see
And they say that he got crazy once and he tried to touch the sun
And he lost a friend but kept his memory
Now he walks in quiet solitude the forest and the streams
Seeking grace in every step he takes
His sight has turned inside himself to try and understand
The serenity of a clear blue mountain lake
and I felt it was speaking directly to my future self.

Sweet Child O Mine really introduced me into hard rock. Before that, I was just into Top 40. I don't know about life changing though.

Rush - Tom Sawyer : I was around 11 when I heard that song while riding in the truck with my dad. Made me pick up drumming. Haven't looked back since.
Tool - Stinkfist : I was around 8th grade the first time I heard it. Changed the way I thought of music. Big Tool fan to this day.

Paul Simon- you can call me Al
The Band- The Weight
Modest Mouse-Float on/ Franz Ferdinand- Take Me Out made me realize there was good modern music. I was in 8th grade and turned into a music hound.
Arcade Fire- Wake Up
Red Stick Ramblers- Grand Texas
Their version of a Hackberry Ramblers song got me into Cajun/Zydeco music way back and now I am a cajun/zydeco DJ for KLSU
