I'm a big fan of songs with memorable cold endings, and feel the fade out approach is often a cop out.
What are your favorite cold endings?
also
in what songs does the fade out feel like it was the right choice?

The intro and cold outro are both GREAT on this song.

It was the wrong choice to fade out the second solo of Comfortably Numb, should’ve lasted another 20 minutes at least

Dream Theater - Pull Me Under An ending so abrupt people thought there was something wrong with their copy of the album.

Some good-to-great songs are taken down a peg by silly, out-of-place endings, like Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" and Metallica's "Some Kind of Monster." Don't conclude an epic riff-o-rama with a wacky guitar doodle. Just fade-out if you've gotta...

Intro to Sweet Leaf
Outro to War Pigs
Also outro to Space Station #5 (Montrose) sounds like War Pigs (a sped up cassette tape unwinding)
