So NWA made the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but Nine Inch Nails didn't

That's debatable to me. Obviously NWA were huge at the time but most everyone knows "I want to frick you like an animal" as well. Reznor pioneered the way for electronic/industrial acts (and spawned such culture phenomenons as Marilyn Manson, producing his first two and most known albums). He was one of the first to embrace the internet for music distribution and also is the CCO of Apple Music. Johnny Cash covered and transformed a NIN song into a farewell song. He got fricking robbed.

NWA is not a "rock" band or "rock" act, or even a foundational artist from the pre-rock era.
If there is a Hip-Hop or Rap HOF - certainly, by all means, put Public Enemy, NWA, Run-DMC (<- one of the very few artists of the genre that might belong in the Rock Hall, btw), Tupac, Dre, Snoop, etc. in there.
But NWA and Public Enemy are two glaring examples of misuse of the Rock HOF to further a non-rock music agenda.

Remember when The Prodigy was supposed to be the next big thing in music? That didn't quite work out but you had Smashing Pumpkins dabbling in electronic music, David Bowie and Rob Halford both went full on industrial, and Rammstein was starting to get noticed in the underground all around this time. You can attribute all of that to NIN. Plus you had bands like KMFDM, Skinny Puppy, Pitchshifter, and a few other industrial acts get some mainstream exposure. I think Reznor had a bigger influence on the 90s than some people realize.

It is always interesting how people take it so personal that their favorite band made the RnR HOF. The Op saying everyone knows "I want to frick you like an animal" like it is some cultural milestone is kind of funny.
If you want to debate NWA is not "rock and roll" that is fine, but they were fore runners of a huge movement. Thier influence in popular music dwarfs anything from NIN.

I think Uncle AL and Ministry were a huge inspiration to NIN. Ministry was doing it in the early 80's. NIN did not totally form until about 1987-88. Skinny Puppy would be there as well. Caberet Voltaire as well.
Also, if you induct NIN -- aren't you essentially inducting Reznor alone? WOuld Richard Patrick be inducted? I highly doubt it and I am sure neither he nor Trent want that to occur. Do guys like Chris Vrenna, Robin Fink, and Danny Lohler get to become inducted, too? Which musicians get what?
I do not think NIN is totally deserving. I love them and still love a lot of what they do, but they shouldn't be mentioned with many of the greats...but alas, the RNRHOF has already screwed that up -- letting in complete jokes.

If you want to induct Ministry, that would be fine with me. You'd also have to induct The Melvins and The Pixies since Nirvana is in too. I think it takes a certain amount of talent to popularize an underground genre. We all know popularity is as big a part in getting inducted as artistic merit is.
