So glad I lived long enough to see Alan Jackson’s

retirement.
Average voice
Cheesy songs
No charisma
Zero personality
If I live to be 100, I won’t understand his appeal. How he was more successful than a true talent like his peers, Steve Wariner, Hal Ketchum, Lee Roy Parnell, etc, is a crime. He was a Nashville creation.
Bring the hate. It matters not.

both guys you mentioned are from the north. Granted that doesn't mean a hill of beans when it comes to talent, but I do think there's something to be said for "hey that guy is from near where I'm from" as a good starting point on some things. When I was younger a knew a shitton of people that loved AJ's music because he was from like an hour away from us.
As for "cheesy songs", put on some of those cheesy songs now in a bar 30 years later and people will still sing along to every word. Just becuase they may not go down in historical records as crowning achievements in musical history doesn't mean they can't be fun and enjoyable.

Personally, I like him.
...but to each, his/her own.

You could kind of say the same thing about George Strait.

Alan always had top tier guitarists, Brent Mason and Danny Groah, so he’s got that going for him.

I like all of those guys, but Alan Jackson connected to the average country music listener in a way those guys couldn't.
Simple songs, nothing too deep, most everyone could relate.

I'm not a huge country music fan but I loved "Remember When". Great song. He's a really good vocalist.

His first album was one of the best intro albums in country music history and he wrote or co-wrote 9 of those songs, including Wanted. He could have stopped there and I would still be a huge fan. Thankfully he didn't and went on to give us a LOT of GREAT music. Your take is terrible.
