Brad Paisley - Whiskey Lullaby
She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time
But he never could get drunk enough to get her off his mind
Until the night
He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away her memory
Life is short, but this time it was bigger
Than the strength he had to get up off his knees
We found him with his face down in the pillow
With a note that said, 'I'll love her till I die.'
And when we buried him beneath the willow
The angels sang a whiskey lullaby
The rumors flew but nobody knew how much she blamed herself
For years and years she tried to hide the whiskey on her breath
She finally drank her pain away a little at a time
But she never could get drunk enough to get him off her mind
Until the night
She put that bottle to her head and pulled the trigger
And finally drank away his memory
Life is short, but this time it was bigger
Than the strength she had to get up off her knees
We found her with her face down in the pillow
Clinging to his picture for dear life
We laid her next to him beneath the willow
While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby
She put him out like the burnin' end of a midnight cigarette
She broke his heart, he spent his whole life tryin' to forget
We watched him drink his pain away a little at a time

I can't find the song online, but I always think of Ryan Adams "September" when sad songs come to mind.
Laura lays on the foot of the bed
Mimics a noose with a telephone cord
Doctor's on the phone
Then she hangs up and says
"I ain't never gonna see the winter again"
And I don't know how, but she smiles
September, September
September, September
They carved your name into the stone and then
they put it in the ground,
I run my fingers through the grooves
When no one's around
Drink till I am sick and
Then I talk to myself in the dog days of the summer
Then I feel you coming but I don't know how
September, September
September, September

Thats a good one. For me the most depressing and sad album ever is Ghost of David by Damien Jurado.
Red House Painters has some really sad stuff too. Katy Song

These are the days of our lives - Queen
Not that the song itself is sad, but the video. Everytime I hear that song, I see those depressing b&w images of Freddie Mercury from the video. Makes the whole song sad.

that one makes me sad because I remember in high school that I went with my best friend and her dad to a funeral for the father of his good friend. After the funeral, my friend's dad offered to drive his buddy home. When we got in the car, he asked if we could ride around and listen to mike and the mechanics. Well, they played Living Years first and the man started uncontrollably sobbing. First time I had ever seen a man cry.
this song always makes me super sad:
Rainy days and mondays

We had an apartment in the city,
Me and Loretta liked living there.
Well, it'd been years since the kids had grown,
A life of their own left us alone.
John and Linda live in Omaha,
And Joe is somewhere on the road.
We lost Davy in the Korean war,
And I still don't know what for, don't matter anymore.
Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger,
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."
Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more,
She sits and stares through the back door screen.
And all the news just repeats itself
Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen.
Someday I'll go and call up Rudy,
We worked together at the factory.
But what could I say if asks "What's new?"
"Nothing, what's with you? Nothing much to do."
Ya' know that old trees just grow stronger,
And old rivers grow wilder ev'ry day.
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there, hello."
So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes,
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care, say, "Hello in there, hello."

I think most can get onboard with this one.
Hurt - Johnny Cash
Completely forgot this song existed...but just heard it in a commercial. Some heavy shite, especially given this was pretty much his last hit...and his farewell message. So damn depressing.
ETA: Yes I know it's a cover of NIN, but it's better coming from Johnny.

I think the NIN version has a more depressed and depleted feeling to it. Almost like they wrote it as a final goodbye. Some deep dark shite
