some good selections thrown out

particularly like Harry Chapin & Clapton "Tears...'

A lot of C&W cryin doesn't get me, kinda over the top for my tastes. Johnny Cash 'Hurt' though is hall of fame that transcends genre.

As a blues guy I'll add- Billie Holiday Body & Soul

her voice transmits the emotion of "my days have grown so lonely" & "I spend my days in longing" in a way that we know only real life experience can bring.

The last verse always gets me a little bit.

quote:

Well, Miller Lite ain't my brand
But I drink one every now and then, in his honour
And we ain't missed a home game yet
Had that Camero at 110 on Red Rock Road
When the speakers blowed

Hell I could just sit on this thread and post everything I'm playing.

I heard this song when I saw "Les Miserables" at The Kennedy Center in 1988 or 89. The hopelessness I heard brought me to tears:

I Dreamed A Dream

Being a big Warren Zevon fan, the release of "The Wind" about a month prior to his death got to me, especially this song:

Keep Me In Your Heart For Awhile

Metallica - "Fade to Black"

Life it seems will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters, no one else

I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free

Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can't be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel

Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me but now he's gone

No one but me can save myself
But it's too late
Now I can't think
Think why I should even try

Yesterday seems as though
It never existed
Death greets me warm
Now I will just say goodbye
