I went and saw REK last night (probably the 7th or 8th time I've seen him in concert). At the beginning of the show, he was by far the drunkest I've ever seen him on stage. The show got better as he began to sober up...still, he has become a shell of the performer he used to be.

That being said...Rich Brotherton was as good as ever. He was wearing out the guitar...Kym Warner (of The Greencards) was absolutely blistering the mandolin. Just watching them was worth the price of admission.

There are so many songs he wrote 20 years ago or so that are awesome.

Gringo Honeymoon
Jessie With the Long Hair
Dreadful Selfish Crime
Shades of Gray
Wild Wind
Down That Dusty Trail
Sonora's Death Row

Darn few songs I like as much as his cover of Townes Van Zandt's Snowing on Raton

I thought he was sober, guess not.

He was doing ATT&T internet commercials on TV here in Austin and I thought it was odd he would do that. He has changed, but I still enjoy his music.

He actually carried a 6 pack of Corona out on stage for his encore.

I'm going to see him tonight. I saw him this past summer on his "Happy Prisoner" tour which was a bluegrass-centric album & show.

Was last night's show a lot of bluegrass cover songs or was it more REK?

I think I've probably seen REK 10-12 times now, and I can't really appreciate any notable difference. Last time I saw him was about a year or so ago.

Often I've noted that he looks high, but the music is still good. I've never seen him do a performance like his one that was recorded for ACL several years ago.

Sorry for the late response. He mixed in some bluegrass and some of the old stuff, along with some of the newer, non-bluegrass stuff. It was pretty random.

Saw him in ATX for his Christmas show and was let down. I think it was more of the opening act being terrible. Best show I saw him at was Old Settlers festival last year, storming like a son of a bitch. Still don't know how they didn't cancel that show. By the time he started at midnight there were only about 60 of us left. Oh yeah, came out in his white colonel sanders suit on

I've seen REK once at our first of the year kick off concert in Tuscaloosa back in 2010 I think? Was a good show.

I just randomly bought his 2011 album Ready for Confetti used on vinyl for 8 bucks two days ago. Sounds really good. Its the only REK music that I own. I am happy with the buy.

I was certain that he was too. I know as he gets older, he gets more and more eccentric. The show I went to last year, he looked like a mad professor and was talking all kinds of nonsense between songs. The show was still good though. His band is top notch.

Used to go see Robert Earl at this place back in the mid to late 90's. Sons of Herman Hall in Dallas. Saw him at a bigger venue when he started getting more popular and he had started going downhill by then. Maybe I was just spoiled to seeing him in a small place.

It was a good playlist. As you posted, the band members were excellent. Oh, and he was quite sober.

I've seen him 3 times and he got worse each time. It's a shame because I love me some REK

Haven't really been into the Texas country music scene in a while but I still listen to Keen sometimes. Gringo Honeymoon is the best country album I've ever heard. Almost every song is an A+ especially the long songs, Dreadful Selfish Crime, Lonely Feeling, and my favorite The Raven and the Coyote.
