What a ridiculous band.

Their albums are phenomenal.

One of the most unique bands ever.

Anyone else love em?

Would have killed to see them live in their hey day.

Who has seen them live?

Serj is the man and seems like a cool dude in general.

I like Toxicity and their first album but have no desire to listen to them again. I don't understand how they're so popular.

They’re great if you can get past Serj’s horrible vocals.

Toxicity is a great album, but they fell the hell off after that. Although “This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I’m On This Song” SMOKES

I liked them enough to get their cd way back when during undergrad. They weren't anyone I cared to keep up with though.

Love SOAD.

One of the most underrated bands every time. Their style was absolutely unique and for a band that had success, nobody could copy or duplicate it.

Serj was also one of the most unique voices in rock ever. He's blown out his voice and doesn't have the same range any more, but his prime...well, you couldn't mistake him for anyone else.

I'd have them very high up the list of metal groups and I can't think of a band comparable to them stylistically.

Saw them at Ozzfest in 2006. Ozzy didn't play that night, so Disturbed and System of a Down were basically the headliners. Both of them were excellent. Main stage bands were:

Disturbed
System of a Down
Avenged Sevenfold
Hatebreed
Lacuna Coil
DragonForce

They were unique compared to other nu metal bands. First two albums are solid.

But WTF happened on those last two albums? Why did the guitarist sing so damn much? He sucks balls.

Who did they open for at The Varsity in like ‘98 or ‘99? Was it Incubus?

They left a band of free sampler tapes at Paradise Records and I wore that thing out in my car. Same with Mindless Self Indulgence.

Yep. I was there. I feel like it was Phunkjunkees/Incubus/SOAD. Maybe 2 Skinnee Js were there in place of PJ? I think it was promoted as a 3 band cage match or something like that.
I got to meet Serj walking out after the show. Was super cool and not too long after I saw them on MTV. Been a fan since.
Damn I miss the Varsity as it was back then. I hate getting old.

Edited after googling: Incubus/SOAD/Dial 7

The Varsity used to rock

I was always more of a casual fan - with the observation that the 3 or 4 ones I was really into a true all-timers. Chop Suey is a top 10 of all time for me.

Over time, I've gotten a little deeper in the catalogue and I think they are just great. Truly unique.

I think the harmony of the singer and guitarist is quite great and unique.

I remember them opening for The Nixons around that time. I had heard SOAD already, as they were getting a good amount of airplay on KLSU's metal show, but I didn't feel like going to see them open for some band I didn't know much about. Incubus played The Varsity several times but I was never a fan so I didn't bother with those shows either.

These were the golden days of booking agent Gavin Hitt at Variety Artists. Dude had the sweetest gig in the game.

I loved them as a teen. I saw them with Metallica,Korn,Kid Rock and somebody else 23? years ago. Hettfield hurt his back and a wave runner the day before. SOAD guitarist stood in for him. He played and sang. It was awesome. We also got a rain check to see Metallica again. Good times. Haven’t listened to them in forever though.

I believe it was Shootyz Groove, not the Phunk Junkeez. That was a great show.
