Another one I forgot about is "So Sad".
George Harrison recorded his version first, but did not release it until after he let Alvin Lee and Mylon Lefevre use it on their album On the Road to Freedom. (on which Harrison actually played guitar).
BTW, if anyone hasn't listened to that album, you're doing yourself a HUGE disservice.

Someone mentioned Joe Cocker earlier. I always said he was the best artist to cover other folks songs. Paul McCartney once said something about Cocker's cover of With a Little Help From My Friends--he would be forever grateful for his turning his pop song into an R&B classic.
