Pumped Up Kicks was the first answer that came to mind for me.

Born in the USA was a great example of this in the 80’s.

I love Soundgarden, but I have no idea what anything he sang about. Even some where I kind of know the words, doesn't matter. I'm feeling the drums, Kim on guitar, and I love Cornell's voice. I figure if I dig into what he was saying I wouldn't like him at all.

Anything by Alice in chains.
Not necessarily upbeat, but definitely a disconnect between the energetic music and the painful sorrow of addiction associated with most of the lyrics.

Grouplove has an entire album called "Never Trust a Happy Song" full of songs like that.

Carrie underwood “ before he cheats” great music but lyrics are stupid and gives woman the right to bash somebodies truck up.
I like the song, and I find myself rooting for her.

Garbage lyricist. In Glory Days, "fastball" fits the line perfectly, and his retarded arse still put "speedball" in there. So dumb, I can't even listen.

Yes. And it’s worth the watch. Hilarious.

I was.
That's what gave me the idea for this thread. I already knew "Luka" was about domestic violence, but it struck me again. I haven't heard that song in a while until today
