so you've got a picture of the guy from blink 182 in your sig. whereas before i wouldn't have been sure, now i see that you're absolutely using that picture ironically.

alternatively, if you really do think blink 182 is amazing and queen is trash, you're terrible at listening to music & should try a simpler hobby.

Yeah I just don’t get it. The same people who like Queen probably like Bruce Springsteen.

Nope, I've always like Queen but never cared much for the Boss. I do like a couple of his songs.

Are you serious? They've had a stunning revival in popularity. From theri career as glam metal/thudding Bowie they've been repositioned into one of the legends of the rock era. Look at any thread about "Greatest Frontman" and Mercury will mentioned early and often.

I've seen a number of polls about GOAT "classic rock " where they place high and sometimes even win. I believe I recently read they are streamed on Spotify more than any other rock band. Certainly they're up there.

I am convinced at least part of this is due to the puffing of Mercury as a ghey martyr, though of course that will be argued.

We saw a reemergence of them for Waynes World back in 92 for our youth. Now they are doing it again. You have to admit that they are in the same breath as Zeppelin or Floyd or the Stones.

Yeah i cant cosign that at all

Itd be hard work for me personally to list a top 5 favorite queen tracks. whereas i feel like most people could rattle off a top 20 for the GOATs you listed with relative ease

And thats not shade, queen was a seminal band. I just dont see them occupying the same space if you do the cliche "rushmore" thing

That was the beginning, but I consider it part of the same continuing revival. I remember thinking at the time "Huh? When did this song become a classic?". I had already filed it away as '70s crap to be forgotten, like Boston, REO or all the other AOR bands.

I'm not debating quality, only popularity.

The Stones have their niche. They weren't as big a seller as Zep in the '70s, or even Queen at the latter's height, but they've remained a steady live draw. Also both Jagger and Richards are interesting interviews.

I predicted that with the march of time Zep would eventually succeed the Beatles in the popularity polls so beloved of journalists. This is where Queen surprisingly came in, like a 1500M runner who lags behind until that final "kick" that takes him across the finish line by a nose.

As I've told Zep fans before, pretty much all they did was sell records. Unlike the Beatles, they had virtually no influence outside music and seldom gave interviews, and as a result they have a lower cultural profile. I think that's slightly "weakened" their status with the general audience.

My biggest admiration of the band is mostly nostalgic. Bands wrote and preformed their own stuff back in those days. Mercury was no different. He played several instruments and was quite the showman.

Now days, all you need is a drum machine, an oversampled riff or two, and a few dance moves. Upload that to YouTube and start spamming.

Disagree with that. Those three bands along with the Who and the Beatles are in a pantheon by themselves.
