Then attempts to play it Youtube

Its always interesting to watch a musician hear a piece of music, and attempt to describe it through his own lens of experience. "Ah, he hits on the upbeat there. Oh, a 'halftime'. Yes, 4/4 beat."

He basically turn Enter Sandman into a groove, but he still does a good job.

Larnell is an amazing drummer, but let's be real. Bob Rock neutered Lars on The Black Album. Compare that drumming to Justice and Puppets.

Idk if I could Ever do this, just because I am A very visual learner.

I'm not saying he hasn't heard it before but I have a hard time believing some of these "never heard" blank song before reviews.

Learned something about this not too long ago that shook me.

Lars' drum sound on the record is primarily...samples.

But what shook me even more is that many of my favorite rock records from the 90s had sampled drums.

Probably not. Sandman is pretty basic in structure and playing. It's not like he was trying Blackened or Disposable Heroes.

Rick Beato - Music Production - Randy Staub Mixing Techniques | Metallica

This one goes into more detail about how another mixer uses the technique.

Rick Beato - Music Production - Andy Wallace Mixing Techniques

Now you know why a lot of 90s drums sound the same.

I don't know it was Bob Rocks fault. Lars and James arrange all the music themselves.

The reality is that Lars is a very average drummer. And I was the biggest Metallica fan growing up. That's the reality though. Lars' major contribution to the band was helping James arrange the tracks and put it all together.

"I noticed that Lars played to James' [Hetfield] guitar, much like the way that Keith Moon played to Pete Townshend. That's fine for some bands, but not every one. Lars wanted METALLICA to groove more. AC/DC's 'Back In Black' was a big reference point as a rock record that grooved. I told him that in order to get that feel, he had to be the focal point musically. So on certain songs, the band played to Lars. They followed him. It made a real difference."

I guess you're kind of right. Bob said this about the recording process. I guess the band had it in their heads and he led them to the new sound.

I've been saying this for years. Most people call it blasphemy.

The drumming drives that music and it made a big difference. In a good way commercially, but not a great way if you loved their early stuff. From Black Album on, it just felt like a different type of metal and it just wasn't really for me. Judging by the albums that came after and Lars' drumming on them, I don't know that it was Bob Rock as much as just a change from Lars.

Unless the professional is 8 years old I don't see how this is even remotely possible.

People love to give Lars shite, but I love his stuff on the first 4 albums. Some of the parts he played, like on One, are very integral to my enjoyment of the songs.

He was great on AJFA. But they had to loop Dyer's Eve because he couldn't play it. He was maybe in the conversation for one of the best in the 80's, simply because there weren't many other bands doing what they did yet.

The songs were already written before they hired Rock. No doubt he made some changes to stuff, but they were headed there already.

Supposedly he had trouble playing tight all the way through. You can hear on the Demo though he keeps up fine. Speed was never his problem, you can say tempo was.

Dyers Eve Demo

ETA: Listening to this and the album version, this demo does seem a few BPM slower, so that would explain having to splice takes together on the album.
