Make a playlist of the absolute must-listen to Prince songs. I like Prince but the way he’s talked about as some pillar of music is a little overblown. I’m willing to give him a chance though—change my mind.

The week after he died, I found out he played a gig at The Warehouse on the Westbank very early in his career, like late 70s, with hair down to his arse and wearing nothing but tighty whiteys.

This is interesting:

quote:

On his first five albums, he played nearly all the instruments,

He was about 18-19 when he made his first album and released a new album roughly every year for the next 30 years.

Seems like the people at the very top of their profession are recognized as such. Why isn’t Prince. Where did he frick up? If he was that great, you shouldn’t have to tell people.

I mean he had a solid career but let’s not act like he was a god or anything. Make a list of his biggest hits. It isn’t all that long.

Ya'll are both wrong. 'Best ever' is subjective. Lets just say that Prince was a phenomenal multi-instrumentalist, and a really good guitarist.

Those two performances are two of my all-time favorites. Prince was a god. Incredibly talented and funky at the same time.

how many hits does aphex twin have? i think that's a pretty solid comparison, actually, given their singular talent & prolific nature (where actually *releasing* music to the public seems a distant second priority to simply creating it in the first place).

There is nothing subjectively wrong about stating the fact that he wasn't the best guitar player ever. To say that he is is just flat out stupid.

He was a bad mofo, but not the the best guitarist ever. Anyone that's familiar a lot of different guitarist knows that.

I could list dozens of guitarist who are factually, not subjectively, better than Prince.

Anyone see him at George Harrison's HOF induction? Better guitarist than Page. Change my mind.

Since when are subjective things fact?

Tell us who “the greatest guitarist of all time” is and please site all the sources who have said as much. Thanks.

By the way, prince isnt my favorite guitarist, but im not into making subjective statements and trying to turn them into “facts”.

According to Sayre, you're just a music pleb.

You need to branch out and find real music Man, not some pop music guy.
