Hey, it was free, I had nothing else better to do, and I lived on campus at the time, so it was'd what it was'd
As far as "sea of beautiful girls", the closest I ever saw to that was a Benjey Davis Project show at The Varsity around 2010. There were at least 3 hot girls and 2 plain janes for every dude there, give or take.

Elton John, fall semester in 1974. ( Goodbye Yellow Brick Road)
Bruce Springsteen, fall semester in 1975 ( Born to Run) (( Half of PMAC was roped off))
George Carlin. Asleep at the Wheel was the warm-up act, they got booed off the stage.
Cat Stevens

My roommate was a stagehand and worked a lot of those shows. He saw Stevie Nicks coked out of her mind backstage one night :CSB:

Pretty sure that show was at the Centroplex. And yes Stevie was wiped out.. My buddy's car wouldn't start after the show, So we walked to find a phone to call for help. Ended up finding the whole band sitting in the empty parking lot with a keg in the trunk. Met the whole band except Stevie who couldn't hardly stand up by that time.

Seen many a show at the PMAC back in the day.
But the one that stands out.. Willie and Friends
Back in the 70's Wille Nelson and friends always held his Birthday Party concert in Baton Rouge at the State Fairgrounds. Well one year rain flooded the Fairgrounds and they moved the show to the Assembly Center. Wille, Emmy Lou Harris, Johnny Paycheck, Leon Russell, Asleep at the Wheel and a few more. Best part, Bring your ice chest, lawn chairs and blankets, Just like it was an outdoor concert.
By the end of the day. The floor of the PMAC was a foot deep in beer cans. ...Good times

Springsteen...came back for Born in the USA...he played for 3:45 hours
My first Springsteen concert was this one. December 1984.
Dan Fogelberg did an acoustic concert here in 1982--just him, a grand piano, and his guitars. That dude was talented--taken way too young and underappreciated in my opinion.
Buffett, Styx (Leroux opened), B-52's (I was chasing tail and she wanted to go to his), Fleetwood Mac.

The ones I can remember were: Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, ELP and Zappa. I also saw Sting c. 1982 after I graduated.
I remember a bunch of us were tripping on shrooms for Floyd and one of my buddies completely lost his shite when the pig inflated up in the ceiling.

The New Orleans Arena opening in 1999 was huge factor in bands skipping Baton Rouge & going to the bigger market in NOLA.
That's not really accurate. Baton Rouge started to get bypassed around 1988. I'd say 1987, but Boston and U2 played that year (and skipped New Orleans like usual).
Your favorite group toured to a ridiculous degree for the Justice album - they made sure to play Beaumont/Odessa/Abilene,Texas, Mears, Michigan, and many other small markets. But Baton Rouge didn't happen even back then (they eventually played once in '92 when the number of shows got even more absurd).
That Guns N' Roses/Soundgarden gig in January '92 was a really rare exception, because Baton Rouge was so thirsty for big arena shows by that point.
Kiss played Wheeling, WV for Alive Worldwide...again, no Baton Rouge. Shreveport and Lafayette got 'em, though.

Grateful Dead
Rory Gallagher, Freddie King, and Rod Stewart and Faces (as headliners) was a great show
Led Zeppelin (twice)
The Who (Toots & The Maytalls opened)
ELP in quadrophonic sound
George Harrison with Billy Preston and Ravi Shankar
Yes, with Gryphon as opener

Yeah I might say even a little bit sooner. UNO Lakefront Arena opened around what? 1983? Definitely saw shows there starting in February of '84. I think this may have been the earliest venue to start chipping away at BR shows.

They did play Lakefront on this tour though. Wanna say January of '89. They made another swing through the southeast later same year, stopping in Biloxi in August. But still no BR.

Is it true that the live version of Callin Baton Rouge was recorded at the PMAC? I know I've heard that story more than once.
