I was even just defending mmm bop in another thread

I was leading the charge for mmm bop a few days ago. It's a great pop song. You like what you like and I don't really care if you like it either. It swings both ways. I don't care that the Minutemen only sold about 12 copies... their stuff is flippin' brilliant and I love it. I don't care how many people bought Motley Crue's albums... I think they are crap.

On the flip side, I think Adele is fantastic and I've already bagged on Sonic Youth in this thread. Which will cost me 100 Hipster Points.

I'm nto saying I like Mmmm Bop but their latest one is actually pretty decent. Give a Little. It's pretty catchy.

Have you ever given Dirty Boots and Teenage Riot a fair shot?

My God, yes. Here's my problem with Teenage riot -- I don't believe them. I know there's some artifice to every song, but Sonic Youth is one of the least Teenage Riot-y bands ever. They are cold and calculated every step of the way. It felt like they were talking down to me.

Oh my God. I am thankful I have never had a thought like that in my life. Please let me forget this was ever said.

this is true. anyone who tells you otherwise is a damned fine 'murrican consumer.

I like Sonic Youth (like, not love), and love about 20 songs or so.

They are tedious and pedantic at times, all the while trying to throw off this don't give a shite image (which couldn't be further from the truth).

I'll put it on the list, but it goes in the back of the line (I have a lot of stuff to check out). I will report back, but I can't promise timeliness.

Sorry, ATX. I like emotional, raw music as a general rule. It's what appeals to me. Sonic Youth has never displayed an honest emption in anything they've ever done. It comes from the head, not the heart. I truly understand why people like them, but they aren't really aiming for me.

Well, I like music. Mostly I like songs. I can tell you I hate over 90% of their songs. Despite that, i like Dirty Boots and Teenage Riot a lot.

I have seen you talk about a lot of music you like and this stuff you're saying just makes no sense to me.

I don't know how to make it any more clear. You don't have to agree, but I don't think I'm being unclear in why I don't like Sonic Youth.

I'm thinking of having battle royale type threads...
like

The Talking Heads v. Elvis Costello

or

Eddie Money v. Dire Sraits

or

Duran Duran v. INXS

maybe making it a weekly thing?
what yall think?

Your'e not. But it's not like this is the first time I've seen you address Sonic Youth. I don't love them or hate them. I only own Daydream Nation. I think it's pretty good. But other albums seem to be hit or miss with tunes or them seeing how far they can push the noise and say it's hip.
