All right, music board. So my daughter is (IMO) a super-talented songwriter. Just turned 16. She’s still kind of “in her shell” so-to-say. Anyway, curious to hear other’s opinions. She’s playing all guitars, vocals, and I’m on bass. Don’t be rude…if it’s not your thing, please just move on.

One of her songs: LINK

I wish you could add lyrics to the video, that always helps. I guess she's a big Pink Floyd fan?

She likes a few of them, for sure. I added lyrics to the description on YT. ????

Not bad, but at 16, I hate to see kids trying to be so serious musically.
She should be singing songs about puppies at the prom

Her songwriting is much more developed at 16 than mine was at 20. That progression/melodic hook she uses right around 1:40 is excellent. It really is about as perfect a hook can be for a song like this. It's memorable, it's unexpected, it's not just a simple scale, it leaves room to be expanded upon at the end of the song, and it completely fits the vibe.

She deserves some serious props. Recording quality is really solid, too.

Reminds me of Mazzy Star. Really good recording and singing by your daughter.

It does remind me of Mazzy Star. Also reminds me of Warpaint. Really good, I like it.

Very mature tune and lyrics for a 16yo. I'm impressed.

She has a great vocal presence, which really drives the music. The song isn't anything overly complicated, which isn't a knock. It's a testament to how good her vocals are in pulling you in. She has a bright future if she did this at 16. Keep encouraging her.

Good stuff. Hearing some Jeff Buckley or even some Radiohead vibes too.

Edit: Not being rude but I'd love to hear a version where the bass line has a bit more movement. I think there's probably something cool to explore there.

I hear ya. I just didn’t want to trample all over her song and make it mine lol. Like some else mentioned, it’s kind of a droning song….not that there’s anything wrong with that. In fact, it’s harder imo to make an interesting song, when the music doesn’t have much movement.

She def loves Radiohead…she’s not familiar with Buckley, except for Hallelujah.

I appreciate all the kind words that have been said!! I’ll share some of it with her…she could use some positive reinforcement from someone other than her old man. Lol.

Boy, does it. This is the type of stuff that makes me wonder how they ever sort through to what becomes popular. Like, if I heard this on XM, I wouldn't even think twice that is was "legit".

Good on pops and his daughter!

Unique voice and I like her touch on the guitar. I mean, this isn't a bad song at all.

She’s got a couple better tunes, but this is the only one that she’s had a chance to record. I got her a MacBook Pro for
Christmas. She had been using her iPhone and just recording with the mic. Everything sounded so bad…but had potential!!

Much respect to anyone who can write a song, play the instruments, sing, record it, and be willing to put it out there to the (not always nice)public. Really good effort, keep it up!
